TITLE: "RECOGNIZE THE DEVIL'S OLD POSITION AND NEW LOCATION"
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 4:1-2, "(1) Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. (2) And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. (KJV)"
Have you ever noticed the location of a particular business that had horrible service, suddenly get a new name? Claiming the business was now under "new management". Then again, sometimes, because business was so bad at the current location; the business moved and changed its name. Its services or products are the same; but, the location is not. Same in position and purpose; which is to undermine. Unless the business hires new personnel and change the way their employees interact with customers. The business will still receive the same results under new management...dissatisfied customers. Sometimes, the devil changes his position and location throughout our lives; but, he is still the devil. His "new management" strategy comes in many forms. He is always looking for weak areas in our lives. Trying to present something new; as the next best thing he thinks we cannot live or do without. A portion of Ecclesiastes 1:9 tells us: "there is no new thing under the sun." This is why the Lord wants us to fortify our hearts and minds with the Word of God. The Word helps us defeat the wiles and trickery of the devil; with Godly wisdom. This is what Jesus did. Matthew chapter 4 gives us an account between Jesus and the devil. The devil was bold in his approach to the Son of God. He tried to make Jesus change his life's purpose, position, and location three times. The devil wanted Jesus to worship him.
But, each time, Jesus defeated satan's temptations with the Word of God. Matthew 4:1-2 states, "(1) Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. (2) And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. (KJV)" The devil came to Jesus thinking this was a weak moment for the Son of God. The devil failed to realize that the Spirit of God led Jesus into the wilderness for this test. Therefore, Jesus inner strength came from the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus exposed satan and his tactics; gaining victory over His enemy. Letting us know, through Him we too shall have victory over the tempter. Even though, the devil changes position and location on us. When we follow Jesus; He will reveal the wiles of the devil to us. So, that we may walk in victory as we follow Him. While Jesus was going through His temptations; He did not use His divine powers to defeat satan. He used the spiritual resources that are available to us today; which was the power of the Holy Spirit of God and the power of the Word of God. Stating three times ("It is written", verses 4, 7, and 10.) He became hungry after His testing. You have the same POWER to defeat the tempter in your life. God is GREAT!
