PROFESSOR OR POSSESSOR
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
Thought: He was only 18 months old when I carried him across the street to the neighbors. Our son Jerry had stopped breathing at least 10 minutes and by God’s grace our town policeman was having coffee with my neighbor and had a resuscitator in his police car. He was able to get Jerry breathing again. Doctors at Children’s Hospital diagnosed it as a rare vascular ring, an abnormal vein from the heart that circled around his breathing and swallowing tubes.
Before the children came along I was very deeply involved in church activities leading a girls quartet, bible studies, Sunday school and VBS. I had the head knowledge about Jesus as my Savior and often professed my faith to those around me. It wasn’t until I held my sweet son in my arms and knew I was powerless to save him—that I put him in God’s hands. I tell my son that God gave me a son to lead me to His Son Jesus as a possessor of the Savior in Spirit. I then realized the difference between a professor and a possessor. I turned my will and life over to the Lord and never looked back. It’s been a journey of learning and excitement every day since.
The Bible also tells us that in these latter days, Satan will use “lying wonders” to deceive the people (II Thess. 2:7-12). God’s Word is the final authority in all-spiritual and life matters. Today’s world has many voices that would tend to lead us astray but if we are a possessor of His Spirit (Jesus) we will be sensitive to His leading and authority allowing His will to be our will. Are you a professor or possessor? Is the Lord Jesus real to you? Do you feel His Spirit within? Then you are truly a child of God. Maranatha
Prayer: Father God, How I praise you for helping me to see the difference between head knowledge and heart acceptance of Jesus presence in my life. It’s a matter of whose will we pursue and confessing that we need your forgiveness. As we walk together throughout this life may I always be sensitive to the leading of your Spirit and obedience to your Word. Amen
Verse: Math: 7:21-23 “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in they name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
