Did you go on a summer vacation?
Maybe you decided to stay on vacation.
If you had the luxury of staying in a paradise resort, that’s understandable. Others had a stay at home vacation. That has both advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, they didn’t have to tap their savings or run up credit card bills.
In contrast, those workers missed out on the rest and recuperation that they really needed.
Jesus knew the importance of rest.
“And He said to them, ‘Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.’ For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves (Mark 6:31-32 NKJV).”
My Dad usually settled for stay at home vacations.
With a wife and 5 children support, he didn’t take us on many trips. The first occurred after Donna (the oldest in our family) married a man in the Air Force. After their wedding, her husband was stationed in the Washington D.C. area. We had our first adventure of crossing state lines. Previously, Dad used his vacation time to work around the house.
In particular, I remember one vacation that he spent painting our living room. I don’t think he complained. Dad wanted to please his bride; a fresh coat of paint brightened the walls and her days. Frank was devoted to Betty…
