Christian Living
If you wish to truly know God, then be obedient to Him as a child would- be simple. We are told not to leave “the simplicity that is in Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3, NKJ), because Christ’s obedience to the Father was always absolute and simple. When we begin to debate about if we will obey God in a certain area of our life, we leave the state of both heart and mind that Jesus had as Son of Man on this earth- simplicity. This is what Adam and Eve did when they initially sinned, they debated if they would obey God and thus they left the life of simplicity God wanted them to have with Himself. It is when we obey God in a simple childlike manner that He reveals more and more of Himself to us, and also of His purposes for our lives. The great secret and root of a simplistic, obedient life unto God is one thing: that we know Who exactly it is we are obeying. Without this most crucial of truths as the root of our obedience unto God, then our obedience is not to God, but obedience to nothing more than a principle or precept written in a book. Thus our life with God becomes the opposite of what God made us for, but rather becomes dutiful and mechanical, which leads to two attributes that God hates; self-righteousness and pride in oneself.
But if we take the time to come to “know Him” as we do with those closest to us i.e., spouses, best friends, etc., and not just come to know about Him as a principle or so we can gain a better life for ourselves, then obedience will become both sweet and delightful to both you and God, “I will delight myself in Your commandments” (Psalm119:47 NKJ). Simply put, we need to fall in love with Him. Not to be simple, but God is the greatest person ever and His love, devotion and faithfulness to us is the best we will ever find as well (try Him on this and you will see). Seek to obey God in all areas of your life knowing that God is all good and wills only goodness towards you, and don’t complicate the life of obedience by hesitating or balking at doing what God wants you to do. Because the reason He desires your obedience to Him, is for you and Him to move ever closer to each other in relationship. By living a life of simple obedience, you will be both healthy-minded and healthy-hearted, just as God is. It’s all about being One in mind and heart with God.
