So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. Ephesians 4:17-19 NIV
Today, we can relate Paul’s message to us, as believers not following the ways of those of this world. The world talks of getting ahead in life, going for the gusto, seeking that which satisfies. The truth of the matter, though, is that none of this leads to true happiness and satisfaction. The worldly will just continue to seek, not finding that which escapes their grasp. Those of this world will long until the day they die.
We must totally let go of the things of this world, and cling to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for it is only in Him that one can find rest for the soul, along with true peace and joy. Our hearts must be free to love, just as Christ has loved us. The only hardening within our hearts must be toward evil, and not to the person who commits an evil act.
We must constantly pray that through the Holy Spirit, our minds will remain open to goodness, humbleness, servanthood, and the betterment of our fellow man. Our understanding must be that of light, and not of darkness.
We must ask that our hearts be kept pure, and kept from the temptations of instant gratification. In all that we do, we must keep our eyes and hearts focused on, and attuned to the Lord.
May that which we do be pleasing in the eyes of the Lord, and may we always follow the pathway upon which He leads us.
