Reset Your Mind
‘For you are setting your mind not on divine things, but on human things.’ Mark 8:33 (NRSV)
Jesus rebuked Peter for rejecting the divine plan of His Father, and limiting his thoughts to plans that were human centred. Like Peter, we too can become focussed on human thinking rather than God’s intentions.
The way to keep our minds on divine things is to stay in the Scriptures, saturating ourselves with the instructions and promises from God’s Word. We need to remain in His presence, not just in times of prayer, but throughout each day, acknowledging that Christ is with us by the power of His spirit within us. And we must surround ourselves with that great cloud of faith-filled witnesses who will keep us in a culture that inspires us to Godliness and living an excellent life for Christ.
We ought to persevere to run this course of action, constantly looking towards Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith. Christ exhorts us to set our mind on divine, not human things. However, Satan will do his best to disengage our thoughts from what is most important - centring ourselves in Christ – to what is least valuable – centring ourselves on the selfish, distracted culture that we live in.
We must strive not to be overrun by a culture alien to divine things. Let us set our minds on things above, where Christ rules and reigns. In doing so, He alone will rule and reign in us.
Consider what keeps us from seeing Christ. What distractions lay before us just now? What can be done to reset our minds so that Christ has supreme reign in our lives?
