I just watched a video entitled "The Heresy of Easy Believism and Continuous Carnal Christian" where brother Paul Washer was explaing that either Jesus is everything to us or He is nothing. Logic demands this is the case. You can be sure that if God has saved a person He has changed that person." Is there any Christian who would disagree with this statement?
The apostle Paul declares, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."2 Cor. 5:17
This is a BIG if. Yes, if a person is in Christ but who says a person is in Christ when they practice sin on a daily basis? Scandalous sins were reason for excommunication in the early church. Few converts were ever let back in once a person was baptized (called his enlightenment) and who later fell away. This is a very serious matter and any church who treats sin so lightly as to avoid proper disipline is probably not preaching the true gospel and is not a true congregation of God. They don't understand the serious nature of sin and the punishment God put on His Son because of the sins of the world.
Because such easy believism gospels abound today people can entertain their false hopes of salvation and heaven without examining themselves to see if they are in the faith. There are many admonitions or exhortations in scripture calling for those who profess an attachment to Jesus Christ to "walk worthy" , "to humble themselves" , to "avoid every appearance of evil" and much more in regards to holiness and avoiding sin.
Jesus told the woman taken in adultery "Go and sin no more." Why do so many professing Christians continue to sin as though it were no big deal?
It seems whenever repentance is preached the objection is that person is preaching a works salvation because God is asking us to do something and salvation is by grace not works so these preachers must be false. In some cases these preachers are false, if they are trusting in their works rather than the Christ who gives salvation by grace through faith.
But let us continue.
This woman writes:
"Salvation is easy. It is so easy to be saved that any child can be saved simply by coming to Jesus Christ as a sinner to be forgiven. Acts 10:43 states: “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” John 3:16 promises: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” What is so difficult about that? Why do men like Ray Comfort and Paul Washer complicate the Gospel into a lie, saying that a changed life is required for genuine salvation? Although I believe these men are sincere, they are dead wrong... “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverb 14:12)."
And this next paragraph was very disturbing to read from this woman. I shutter to think how the apostle Paul would have reacted to this foolish and unbiblical statement.
"Do believers have a license to sin? ... Yes, technically! Certainly, no one has God's permission or blessing to sin (2nd Corinthians 5:10); but if a believer wants to go kill somebody, it won't affect their salvation one bit. To teach otherwise is self-righteousness. Romans 4:5-6 proclaims that salvation is without works. A man's faith is counted for righteousness. I'm not saying it's ok for believers to live in sin, not at all (Romans 3:31). God chastises (disciplines) and scourges (whips) His children when they sin (Hebrews 12:6-8). I'm simply saying that eternal life is a free gift from God (Romans 5:15; 6:23) which has absolutely NOTHING to do with the life we live (Ephesians 2:8,9)"
This woman answered in the affirmative to the question do we have a license to sin? "Yes technically" she said but what saith God through the apostle Paul? He said "where sin abounded grace did much more abound" and he foresees the argument that if this is true then let us sin all the more because God's grace will more than cover it again and again.
God forbid! Said Paul. How shall we who are dead to sin live any longer therein? Romans 5:20-6:2
Does this sound like a license to sin? No, ofcourse not.
To any mature Christian who is well grounded in the word these statements are easily repudiated and should be rejected by everyone in the Christian community.
Here's my response.
Dear soul you do err not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God. You speak some truth but a half truth mixed with lies is like Kool-Aid mixed with poison. It will kill you.
You said: "Salvation is simple and easy. It's like walking through a door and Jesus is the door. Salvation is so easy. It's like drinking a cup of water" and then she quotes some scripture to back up her claim.
What this woman doesn't understand is that nobody of themselves wants to walk through the door, that is, "no man can come to me, said Jesus, except the Father which hath sent me draw him." John 6:44
You said: "Jesus never asked us to be willing to give up anything to be saved" Your statement is simply not true according to the Bible and from the rest of what you've written I perceive you to still be lost and in your sins.
I too was once lost and in my sins because I didn't hear the gospel. "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17 I was once told some truths about God, sin and salvation but not the whole counsel of God and the need for faith AND repentance. You see God doesn't save us in our sins. He saves us FROM our sins so that we will never to do such filthy and wicked acts again.
Read the letter from the apostle John. "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye SIN NOT. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." 1 John 2:1
Jesus wants you and I to give up our life if necessary because if you deny Him then He will deny you. (Mark 8:35; 2 Tim. 2:12)
You might ask: "Didn't Peter deny the Lord?" Yes, he did but he was brought to repentance and converted. A continual denial of the Lord brings judgment and eternal destruction. 2 Peter 2:1-3
Jesus wants you to deny your self-will and selfish ways and EVERY SIN because any sin that is not hated and fought against is evidence you are in rebellion against God. This is why the apostle Paul tells us to "mortify the deeds of the flesh that you might live." Mortify means put to death. This is not an option but a command.
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside EVERY WEIGHT, and THE SIN which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us." Heb. 12:1. The expression "lay aside" is the same as give it up.
He wants you to give up your greater love for your parents than your lesser love for Him. "He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me." (Matthew 10:37)
Did you know you can make an idol out of your children by loving them more than you love God? It's true and many parents have done just that without realizing it. Have you?
He wants you to give up your idols. "Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry." 1 Cor. 10:14; "Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen." 1 John 5:21
An Idol is anything that takes the place of God in our lives. God is our source of being, energy and life and we have to be extremely careful not to allow anything, no matter how important, to take the place of God in our lives. He is a jealous God who does not take pleasure in our affections being exalted and directed toward other objects. May God always be the priority in our lives.
He wants you to give up the works of your flesh and Paul names several to be avoided or given up (Gal 5:19-21) These are scandalous sins which shut men and women out of heaven.
Be not deceived in this matter. "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." Galatian 5:19-21
As the blessed Puritan writer Thomas Watson said: "Our hearts must go along with our confessions. The hypocrite confesses sin but loves it, like a thief who confesses to stolen goods, yet loves stealing. How many confess pride and covetousness with their lips but roll them as honey under their tongue."
He wants you to give up lust, pride and love for this evil world. 1 John 2:15-17 If you have lust for the things of this world as a habit then you can be certain you have not the love of the Father in you which means you're still lost and in your sins.
Repent and believe Jesus' every word that you might be saved and escape the wrath to come.
