Offer ‘the best’ to ‘The Best’
Every Sunday service in the church, when most of them are out there to attend the service or the mass as they may call it, some with a desire to hear a good message or witness a blessed choir, my question….does anyone go there to meet God? Going to the house of God, yet not with the intent to meet God would be an investment of time into vanity.
When repentance becomes ritualistic and is void of the essence of guilt and the true desire of restoration, it becomes yet another grave sin which needs genuine repentance.
When the Jews were probably customarily repenting as a preparation for the Passover, Mary the sister of Lazarus whom Jesus raised from the dead, sought a unique way to prepare for the Passover. She took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. Judas Iscariot (the disciple who betrayed Jesus) quickly concluded this as a waste of money (worth three hundred denarii-some account this to worth 20-30 thousand dollars) which could alternatively have been used for charity, yet Mary had used this to worship the Master.
She used the best she had and offered it to The Best…to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Probably this was the best form of worship, a sign of admiration of all that the Lord was to Mary.
Did Jesus like it? Did He accept it?
Jesus reprimanded Judas and said….
“But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.””
John 12:7-8 NKJV
Long before, the greatest King who ever lived and the man according to God’s heart –King David, when he saw the ark of God kept in a tent was grieved and expressed his desire to build the house of God and this is how the Lord God responded to King David through Nathan the prophet of the Lord….
“Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously, since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the Lord tells you that He will make you a house.”
2 Samuel 7:8-11 NKJV
God looks at our intent and appreciates even the very thought of true worship, thus lets endeavor to give our best to the Lord always, even if it be the best of our thoughts, for He rightly deserves it.
God Bless,
Abraham
