New Attitude
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;old things have passed away;behold all things have become new.
This means we don't have to live imprisoned in the same old mind-sets, fears, temptations, worries, and attitudes of the past. You've been released from those things that have kept you from enjoying your life in God. It's time to experience the new things Jesus came to give you.
A New Attitude -- Pattie Labelle
I'm feeling good from my hat to my shoe
Know where I am going and I know what to do
I've tidied up my point of view
I've got a new attitude
I 'm in control
My worries are few
'Cause I got love like I never knew
Ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo
I've got a new attitude
If there is no noticeable difference between the attitude of a believer and the attitude of a nonbeliever, something is wrong Amen. We are called to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). And to be the light of the world, something has to be different about us; I believe that difference begins with attitudes. The kind of attitudes we have toward God, the past, the future, ourselves, our lives and the people around us are vital.
If you have a negative, grumpy, complaining attitude, no one is going to come up to you and say, " Wow! Something is different about you. Tell me what you have, because I really need that, " Those kinds of attitudes don't draw people to Christ. People are already negative, grumpy and complaning; they don't want more of that. They are already driving BMW's (Barking, Moaning & Whining). You can put Christian bumper stickers on your car and Christian jewerlry around your neck, but if your attitude is bad, people won't see Jesus.
A bad attitude will also affect you. If you are living your life with defeated thinking and a discouraged mind-set you are missing out on the joyful, overcoming life Jesus came to give you. If you focus on your problems or your frustrations, your attitude is going to be negative and defeated. But when you put your focus on God and His promises for your life, your attitude will immediately change. God's goodness is great!
The Bible teaches us that if we set our minds on the flesh, the flesh and its lusts and desires will control us. However, if we set our minds on the Spirit, we will be controlled by the Spirit. Many people don't realize that whatever we set our minds on is what we are seeking in life. What has your mind-set been on lately?
Have you set your mind to pursue the purpose of God passionately, or are you pursuing your own plan and expecting God to bless it? Sometimes the best thing we can do is throw away all of our own plans and say, "God, Your will be done in my life." When we do this, we step out into an adventure with God that gives us fresh passion. We step into F.A.I.T.H. (Fantastic Adventures In Trusting Him). Don't be limited by your own thoughts and desires. God's plan is bigger and better!
The goodness of God can make a person change. Psalm 27:13 says, "Iam still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living." Goodness changes things. Nothing just happens. David said, "I had to believe to see."
The next time you have a bad attitude, feeling negative, grumpy or complaining you need to say to yourself. I believe to see goodness in my life today. I'm going to see some goodness today and tomarrow. I'm going to receive the goodness of the Lord in my life.
A Wisdom Story
I came across a short modern-day parable when I was helping my best friend who was dignosted with stage IV cancer and had to go through both Kemo and Radiation treatments. As a woman she was worried how she would look and about looseing her thick beautiful hair. So I shared this parable with her:
There once was a woman who woke up one morning,
looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. "Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror, and saw
that she had only two hairs on her head. "Hmmm," she
said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle to day."
So she did and had a grand day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror, and
noticed that she had only one hair on her head. "Well,"
she said, "Today I'm going to wear my hair in a ponytail."
So she did, and had a fun, fun day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror, and
noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. She
shouted "YAY!' as she jumped for joy. "I don't have to fix my hair today!"
This is a woman who understood the power of a good attitude. Her attitude allowed her to see life differently. Her attitude allowed her to enjoy life regardless of the situation she faced.
Jude 1:24 says, "To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy," God is able to keep you from falling. Please, begin to understand that Jesus lives in you.
God wants us to be postive, joyful, and enthusiastic. There is nothing negative about God, and if we want to walk with Him and have His plans manifest themselves in our lives, it is essential that we choose to not be negative, too.
A postive attitude filled with hope fuels joy and enthusiasm. Your attitude is entirely yours, and nobody can force you to have a bad one if you refuse to do so. The inconveniences, frustrations, and anxieties of life that use to drag you down are nothing compared to the promises of God in your life.
Your decision determines the quality of your life. So why not make a decision to look on the bright side of life and let enthusiasm soar and take you to new heights in God's good plan. You have something to be excited about today. Today is a good day to have a good day. God is for you, and He is working on your behalf. Cheer up and be encouraged, it's all going to work out. One of my favorite verses says:
We are assured and know that all things work together and
are for good to and for those who love God and are called
according to His design and purpose. (Romans 8:28)
That's an attitude changer! You can go through each day with a happy realization that God is working all things for your good. He loves you, and He has a great plan for your life. Let that be your focus, and let your light shine for all to see. Amen.
Let Us Pray
Almighty God, we bless you for our lives, we give you praise for your abundant mercy and grace we receive. We thank you for your faithfulness even though we are not faithful to you. Lord Jesus we ask you to give us all around peace in our mind, body, soul and spirit. We want you to heal and remove everything that is causing stress, grief, and sorrow in our lives.
Heavenly Father, please grant us peace of mind and calm our troubled heart. Our soul is like a turbulent sea. We can't seem to find our balance so we stumble and worry constantly. Give us the strength and clarity of mind to find our purpose and walk the path you've laid out for us. We trust your love God, and know that you will heal this stress. Just as the sun rises each day against the dark of night, please bring us clarity with the light of God. In Your name. . .Jesus Christ we pray. AMEN
