"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2)
Well, "Spring has Sprung". No more "long winter’s naps", to which the old poem alludes, which I will dearly miss. No more settling into those warm cozy covers. No more nightly hibernations. I guess I have more in common with those hibernating animals than I realized. Anyway, one good fact of my nightly sleep maneuver, I can still l drift off at the dictates of my subconscious mind. So, at this juncture in my make-believe comes another wild and wooly encounter with my subliminal mind. Who will win out? Actually, who needs to win? So, here goes.
Apparently I was deep in the sleep world when suddenly I awaken out of my deep sleep by a familiar voice screaming in my ear, "MIND OVER MATTER!" “What the …?” I asked.
Then almost instantly, before I had a chance to digesting this familiar idiom of "Mind Over Matter," a peculiar phrase suddenly popped into my mind. "Which is larger, that which one knows or that that which is unknown?"
"The unknown, of course,” I murmured in my waking mode. "Did I give the correct answer?"
My mind's response, "But how do you contain that which is larger, that which is larger than your mind’s capacity to understand?"
"Good question, I have no idea of the answer", as I continued my waking approach.
“Take a jar, for instance. Can a jar hold beyond its physical capacity?" my mind continued.
"Wow, is my mind now getting confused?"
"No need to be confused, it's simple,” my mind responded. "Simply removing the jar lid removes the hindrances.”
"What will you have then? Is the jar not then an open vessel? Now the restrictions are removed. Can it not temporarily contain the sunshine, the wind, the fog, the smell of springtime, the morning dew ?" my mind continued.
“Well, if you figure it that way, I guess it could be, as it now has no obstruction” I hazarded. "Come on now, mind, you woke me up for this? What is the purpose of this sudden play on words? How do I put together all these phrases? What does a crude mason jar, with or without a lid, have to do with my mind, with my daily life, and most of all with my sleeping? Just why did you wake me up, mind?"
"Are you awake now?" my mind responded. "It's simply MIND OVER MATTER. In other words, its the power of the mind to control and influence the body and the physical world generally. You really need to know this, to solve this jigsaw puzzle of words you mentioned.
Only by becoming an open vessel, and being open to the vast, infinite, never-ending, unlimited blessing of God, can you reach your full potential and realize your full blessing from God.” (2 Cor 4:7-9)
“And much like a jar, God will use you for His kingdom. But like a jar, no one likes a dirty one, so your jar of life must be clean in God's sight. Never fill your jar of life with the things of the world, with the works of the flesh. (Galatians 5:19-21) But fill your heart and mind with the "Fruit of the Spirit." (Galatians 5:22-23)
"You see, we are now living in an inverted world of social, communal evil. (Ephesians 6:11-12) The fields are definitely "white unto harvest. (John 4:35) So now is the time for you to come and open your mind, your heart, and your life to the infinity of our loving heavenly Father. He needs your help. He needs your life's unlimited jar capacity. He needs you to leave the jar open and not close the lid of limitation. He is waiting and willing to help you keep your mind clean and clear, with respect to His principles. That's the reason for our conversation here.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
So, are you contending for the full Gospel? (1 Cor 15:1-4) By being an open jar, open to the gospel, is the only way you can ever contain God's eternal will, His eternal sovereignty for your life.
Author's Postscript
One need only tune in any number of the national and international news media outlets to see that we are in dire need of the full Gospel of God’s love. (1 Cor 15:1-4) You see, apostasy is now rampant on all sides.(2 Timothy 3:1-5,7,9,13) (2 Timothy 4:3-4) Therefore, we must not give our heavenly Father a restricted closed jar, for today is the day of salvation, tomorrow may be too late. (2 Cor 6:1-2)
A local general store had a well-known man we shall call "Sam." Sam had a reputation of being a bit on the lazy side. One day, the community happened to notice that Sam was missing. The question was asked where he was. The store owned replied, "Oh, he retired."
"Then what will you do to replace him?” one asked.
"Oh, Sam didn't leave no vacancy," replied the store owner.
Unlike Sam's well-known openly lazy reputation, is it not time for us to open our hearts for God's service, to be as an open jar, able to tirelessly be used of Him, for the extension of His kingdom? (Philippians 1:6)
In closing, please put this simple Doxology in your jaw of life.
"To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! ( Jude 1:24025) Amen.
