He lay down His love for us for He loves us.
Jesus’s death on the cross was not an accident or a coercive act by the authorities of His time about which He was ignorant..
On several occasions did Jesus speak about His own death and the blessed purpose behind it.
“No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
John 10:18 NKJV
The brutal agonizing death of Christ followed by the blessed resurrection, gives us the blessed assurance of our sins being pardoned and the hope of a new life with Christ.
What is it that led God to suffer for our sins (for God’s are not meant to suffer self but to inflict sinners with suffering)?
Here how the Lord conveys why He chose to lay down His life for us…
“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”
John 15:12-14 NKJV
Jesus lay down His life for us because He loves us, and thus He encourages us to be the same and love others (yet sadly how contrarily the world functions today, in the absence of love, hatred reigns the hearts and thus instead of saving precious lives, we see people destroying themselves and others.)
We are His creation and the most blessed assurance we have is this: GOD LOVES US.
And when we know that He loves us, this is the best we can ever be.
“The great thing to remember is that though our feelings come and go God's love for us does not.” C. S. Lewis
