Prayer, not for the Desperate, but the Faithful
By Robert Schaetzle
For many years during my daily bible reading and prayer time, I journal. I select a verse or verses that really stand out and inspire me to make a personal application. I find my biblical truth and write out my prayer as His Holy Spirit prompts me. Doing so, I receive His faithful assurance that my petition or praise, is before the Royalty of His presence, as promised:
14 “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” [1 John 5:14-15 NKJV]
This does not define itself that His answer will be met within my human reasoning, but by the promise of His authority. I find rest in His peace that passes ALL understanding. The thought of anxiousness and fear are diminished because His faithfulness, that comes through the promise of His word.
11 “For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.” [Romans 10:11-12]
When I call out to the Creator of the universe, I know this ‘richness’ spoken of, and need not feel the desperation of our unstable world around me. This wealth is to be recognized as His love and abundant resource. It’s the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not yet seen; that we reach up to Him not despairing, but through faithful trust.
