This Is The Day (Psalm 118:24)
“This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Every new day belongs to the Lord and it is a gift from Him, a blank page to write a new story. It is a fresh opportunity to live for Jesus, to love like Him, and to make an eternal deposit into heavenly things. He is reminding us that “today” is filled with unlimited heavenly potential and that it is in our hands to make each day a “good” one.
• Acknowledge each new day as from God. Acknowledge that He is Lord over your day. He created time and space for us to live in and enjoy. It is all His so give Him the first fruits of it, however brief, maybe connecting with Him as soon as you awake. We often call Sundays “the Lord’s day” but every moment of every day belongs to Him. It is His grace that we wake up to each morning, to live a new day, His sweet kiss upon our cheeks. His breath keeps us alive!
• Live “today” today! God is concerned about “this day”. (Matthew 6:34). Many of us get stuck in the past, focusing on mistakes, disappointments or defeats when yesterday cannot be changed. Others live in the future, making detailed plans to avoid things going wrong, or worrying about and anticipating the many things that could happen. While some planning is necessary for sure, focusing excessively on the future is a way we can be cheated of the beauty of living in the fullness of this moment and this day. Too many of us also postpone to tomorrow the good thing that we can experience from God today. The Holy Spirit reminds us today from Isaiah 43:18 & 19 “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing. Now it shall spring forth. Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” These verses are talking about the unfolding of a miracle, a new thing, and it begins to happen when we stop focusing on the past and we anticipate it “now”. This moment is filled with a heavenly “yes” and “amen”, and we can step into it as we look up into the face of our Lord, and live in the “now”. Today is your day for healing, your day of restoration. Today is the beginning of your turnaround. Today you are the perfect candidate for a miracle because God is not waiting to see if you will become a “better” person or whether you need to appreciate Him a little more. His love is overflowing and His grace is abundantly sufficient. “This” is the day the Lord has made for you!
• Live purposefully. The Psalmist writes “We will rejoice”. Can you make the same choice to live purposefully? We can choose to rejoice. We can choose to live every moment of this life intentionally, investing in the Kingdom, and in our walk with God; investing in the lives of people and in relationships, always working towards connection rather than disconnection, always building up rather than pulling down. (It is true that there are times when people are denied their power to make certain choices and that is very sad. If you are such a person, I pray that you will experience a revelation of who you are in Jesus, and that the power of the Holy Spirit sets you free.) Experts say that the average human being makes thousands of decisions during the course of each day (as many as 35,000!) and something influences every decision. Let that “something” be the love of God and the special purpose and plan He has for us. Choose Jesus, choose Abba’s love! Choose to live in the power of the Holy Spirit every day. This is the day the Lord has made for you!
• Live in joy and thankfulness. Is it possible to always rejoice and be glad? We all have challenges, so honestly, no! But with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can begin to try. We can start by simply being thankful for everything, knowing that Heaven is our source. The Old Testament people of Israel took God for granted so much, grumbling instead of thanking Him, and they ended up wondering around for 40 years. Most of them never saw the good land of promise which God had prepared for them although it had been decreed to them as their inheritance. I really believe that a thankful heart brings breakthrough and takes us into a level of joy and connection with God that is not dependent on our external circumstances. He has done so much for each of us, and truly, the more thankful we are for what we have, the more we will have reasons to thank our amazing Father God! Remember how Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes multiple times? Each time He lifted them up to heaven and gave thanks!
“My precious child, I am calling you to live your days for Me. See each day as a new and treasured gift from My Eternity. As I wove you in your mother’s womb, I saw unfold every day that you would see; now I am calling you to live and love fully, and walk into your destiny. I make no mistakes My much loved child, so know that you are where you were meant to be. Choose to live each day purposefully, and with joy because that is how I created you to be. I have broken the power of the enemy, I have set you free. Now I am calling you higher – will you come with Me?”
There is higher ground for us dear friend, as we choose to live each day as God is calling us to. Let us start today because this is the day that the Lord has made so let us rejoice and be glad in it!
