It is the little experiment in daily life experience that helps to make our lives interesting. For example presenting a family member with a different brand of the same product without their necessarily knowing it to see if they detect enough of a difference to mention it, or to see if they detect any difference at all! Or it may take the form of going for a walk at a different time to see if other neighbors are less or more likely to be out at that time. Or it may be something as simple as comparing gas prices at different corners or at the same site but different times. Or suppose it's exploring or improvising a different route to the same destination to compare the time and traffic required for arrival. None of these are such important matters in themselves so much as they may serve to make everyday routines more stimulating.
I think of Moses the great Hebrew deliverer making his ordinary outdoor rounds in the work and wandering of a shepherd when he notices a bush on fire. That in itself we are told is not so unusual, but what was unusual was that the bush wasn't consumed. When his curiousity led him to investigate that fact, what followed was to change his life and many others forever. If we allow ourselves to be so engaged in what is going on near us and around us, we never know what grand plans and purposes might engulf us. And even if they don't seem to, we're engaged and participating in life, and that's more to the point. Moses after all was just checking out a bush and covering a little ground, not seeking the destiny of entire nations. Yet he became instrumental in that very thing!
