“And the angel said to her,”----you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High….. And Mary said to the angel, ‘How will this be, since I am a virgin?’ And the angel answered her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy – the Son of God….. For nothing will be impossible with God. And Mary said, ‘Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:30-38 ESV)

“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” (Matthew 1:23, Isaiah 7:14 NLT)

The virgin-birth of Jesus Christ is a crucial topic in theological studies. Mary, the virgin, becoming pregnant and giving birth to the Son of the Most High; Christ, God’s Eternal Son being born as a babe: these are all divine, supernatural miracles. Science can never agree with this phenomenon. Anything apart from God has its limitations of possibilities. But God has no boundaries.

No one can ever envisage that God, the Eternal Creator can be born of a virgin. But, I said, God has no boundaries. If you asked Mary, “Whom did you give birth to?” She will, with all humility, say, “I gave birth to the One Who created me, Who formed me in my mother’s womb, Who gave me wondrous blessings in life.”

Human life starts when one is born on this earth. But Christ, whose birthday we celebrate as Christmas, was not born on the first Christmas. In fact, He is eternal; in other words, He has no beginning and no end. Christ never began to exist, He always exists even before time! It is another point here: One with no time of beginning was born, God became a human being!

It was also the birth of the self-existent God. Everything that exists came into being in its own particular time. But Christ never came into existence, He always existed. In fact, He is the Alpha and the Omega. Because He created, so the universe, the heaven, everything,  came into existence. I admit that all these truths cannot be fathomed by human thinking. There are truths which only God can reveal and there are truths which only the spiritual man can understand.

Conclusion: Christ’s birth was a miracle. It was the greatest birth ever. When we celebrate this great miracle, let us be filled with reverence and awe for the Mightiest of all, the One, who being God, self-existent, was born of a woman, for the sinful mortal man. May we become more humble and glorify God all the days of our life.
