Encouragement
His yoke is easy (Matthew 11:28-30)
“Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Jesus promises rest and peace to all who come to Him and lay their burdens at His feet. It is a rest and peace that becomes ours when we “yoke” ourselves to the Bridegroom Prince and we begin to walk through life in union and partnership with Him. Relationship with Jesus is unlike any other. He says “learn from Me” and this is so easy to do because of His love and tenderness. He always respects our individuality and never barges in to any part of our hearts before we are ready to open it to Him. He says “Come to Me” because He wants the interaction to be of each one’s own seeking and volition, and never one that is forced by Him.
Jesus first spoke these words to the people of the day who were oppressed by a variety of hundreds of religious rules and regulations which covered every aspect of their lives. It was a heavy yoke upon the shoulders of the people of God. Their lives were bound by the law and wherever they turned they would end up breaking the rules and then having to live in condemnation while they tried to make amends. Even worship was all about fulfilling what the law demanded and not about the expression of love towards a good God. Communities were controlled by their religious leaders and people lived to please and obey them rather than the God they claimed to serve.
Jesus came to set the captives free in every sphere of life. When He walked through the temple with a whip in His hands, He was clearing out the old way to usher in the new. He was offering people freedom and a new way – His way. He was saying “Come to Me, abide in Me, and I will set you free”.
Dear friend, the Lord is reaching out to you today. He wants to set you free from the fear of man, and the endless burden of duty and obligation. He is calling Abba’s sons and daughters everywhere to yoke themselves to Him, and to live to please Him. He never controls or pushes you beyond where you are comfortable and He does not demand your time or service the way people do. He wants our service to be the sincere and spontaneous expression of our love for Him, and a joyful gift of our free will. While He is always pleased with the offerings we bring, He loves us unconditionally, and nothing we could do for Him could make Him love us more.
If you are weary and stressed and you long to be rid of the turbulence in your heart, there is rest for your soul today. Let the Holy Spirit touch you deep down in your heart, friend. He is drawing you into partnership with Jesus. That sweet heavenly rest comes when we submit to that new beautiful yoke and we allow the precious Spirit to be our Teacher and Guide. He has so much to teach us, not about the letter of the law but about the heavenly Truths He wants to reveal as He opens the eyes of our hearts in a whole new way.
Jesus said to the Samaritan woman in John 4 that the Father was looking for worshipers who would worship Him in spirit and in truth. He says the same to us today as He calls us into intimacy and oneness, this new partnership with Him. There is great peace when we are yoked to the Prince of peace. There is great rest in being one with the One who said “I will give you rest”. It all comes from yielding to the King, and allowing Him to be Lord in our lives. It is about leaving our own way and cleaving to His. It is laying down our lives and gaining His. It is about giving up the struggle and releasing our will to His, aligning our hearts with what is in His. True rest is that state that comes through wholly aligning our hearts with God’s.
“My precious child, I am calling you into true love, and the divine union of partnership with Me. When you come to Me, you become the winner all the way. I will take all the baggage you have carried and give you more of Me; more peace, true rest, joy and liberty. It is a real offer, but first you have to come and align your heart with Me.”
Be blessed, and receive deep rest into the depths of your soul!
