COMPETING FOR GOD
A big part of life in our day to day world is the preparation of young people to compete. Competing on a sports team is somewhat noble. After all, don't we all cheer at the Olympics? The problem with all that competing is how many losers it leaves in the dust. The flip side is that when you lose it can inspire you to do better. The flip side of that flip side is that some people never get better and some just give up. That's sports and we've all seen the good and bad and the highs and lows of it. What about work?
Helping people to learn how to compete for jobs. It sounds noble. After all, don't we want the best plumber, the best teacher or the best auto mechanic doing the job? Sure. Maybe the real concern then is not the competition but the determining what is best for any particular individual. That's not always easy. You can spend a lifetime trying to figure out what you're really good at. So instead most of us find a job and do it reasonably well and usually branch off into hobbies to fulfill our passions. Or we never really figure out what our passions are and spend our lives in frustration. I truly believe that there are a lot of homeless and hopeless people out there who could be so much more if only they had a sense of purpose and direction. In many cases, they've just given up on themselves and are convinced that the world gave up on them a long time ago. In many cases, they're right.
This is where the Body of Christ comes in. Jesus hasn't given up on anyone. Are we truly his hands and feet or is it just something to sing on Sunday morning to feel good about ourselves? A Book of James life is a life that involves doing. We have to get out there and reach people who are hurting. And if you are hurting yourself then I have the cure. Help somebody else. It will make you better. It's reciprocity, it's biblical and it works. Even if it didn't help you it still helps someone else but believe me it does help you. It gets your eyes off of you. Great sorrow in your life can lead to great victory or to self-pity. Take the noble path. Be a winner. Compete for God. I don't care if you feel so bad that you can't hardly hold your head up. Believe me I've been there. You don't have to stay there. I was just reading about a blind school that needs volunteers. There are so many people and places that need you. You are unique, a special creation of God, created in His image and likeness, set apart before you were formed in your mother's womb. Think on all the poor, innocent babies that have been murdered through abortion. They never got the chance to share anything with anyone (at least not in this present world) but we do have unlimited chances. Instead of regretting what we didn't do, let's just do something, anything, and God will reward our open heart and willingness with direction and guidance and peace. We are the last days Church. It's up to us to turn this world upside down.
