POSITIONED FOR VICTORY (2 Chronicles 20:16 & 17)
“Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”
Last week we saw how King Jehoshophat and the people of Judah were under attack by a united army of multiple nations. When he cried out to God, the Lord spoke to him with clear direction and showed him what to do. Jehoshophat was on the brink of his breakthrough and God was mobilizing angel armies to fight on his behalf, but there were some things that had to fall into place on his part before he saw the manifestation of his miracle.
1) “Position yourselves”. God told them where to go, when to go, and where to wait. He gave them a clear picture of what would happen, and He wants to do the same for you. We serve the omniscient, infinite Lord of all creation, the fountain of all knowledge and wisdom, the source of all truth, the ultimate Prophet! When we are faced with difficulties, we may quickly jump into action, doing what we may have done in similar situations in the past, or we may react impulsively and emotionally. However, our Father always has a better way, and when we lift up our eyes to Him and we look to our Source, He gives us wisdom and revelation. The Holy Spirit guides our steps and leads us through the maze, through the fire and the flood, to where we need to be. God has promised that no weapon formed against us can prosper (Isaiah 54:17). He has promised that we can trample on serpents and scorpions and on all the power of the enemy and that nothing shall harm us (Luke 10:19). In the assurance that we have already been given the final victory, we can turn to the One whose heart overflows with love for us and tap into Him. Our help comes from the Lord (Psalm 121:2). Dear friend, Abba loves you so much and He wants to show you what you can do to overcome every trying situation. He has strategies and detailed plans for you, when you turn your heart to Him and say “My eyes are on you. My heart and my ears are open – show me what to do”!
2) Stand still and wait. The people were meant to follow the Lord’s instructions and then simply wait. This is one of the hardest things to do! As Christians, we have been taught multiple different ways of overcoming the enemy, and it feels wrong not to be doing something about a bad situation, especially when things may seem to be getting worse each day. In this instance, Jehoshaphat was called to simply praise and worship the Lord, and the heavens opened for a supernatural intervention, and a mighty breakthrough and deliverance for the whole nation, hallelujah! Standing still and waiting for the Lord is not another formula, and it may not be what we are meant to do in every situation. However, as we look away from the issue we are facing and focus on God, it helps us to pause and open ourselves to His voice. Our breakthrough comes from hearing His voice and receiving His direction. It may not always happen the same way, but when we hear the voice of our Father, we know what to do and it works out well in the end. It is possible to do nothing and “wait” only when you trust in God and believe He will guide you in the end.
3) Waiting is not a matter of time, it is a matter of alignment. It is important to receive the direction of the Lord and to position ourselves where He wants us, because our breakthrough happens when we are aligned with heaven. Everything the Father has for us is already given in the heavenly realms where there is no time but we may step into His gracious gifts, His glory and power as we yield to the adjustments the Holy Spirit brings, and are hearts are realigned to the heart of God. As we are perfectly positioned and in tune with Him, there is a fusion in the spiritual realm and we see manifested on the earth what is decreed in Heaven.
4) Do not fear, the Lord is with you. “My child do not fear for I am with you. I have heard every prayer you prayed, I have seen every tear. This is victory – to simply keep your eyes on Me in the face of trouble and turmoil; this is how to stay in faith, in hope, in love, and to preserve the peace within your heart. Feed yourself on Me. I am your strength and your resting place, your hope of Glory. I am your ever present help in this time of need. Take heart and be strong My precious child – I love you and I am fighting on your behalf, and I will meet your every need.”
