Encouragement
The scenario in the world today has changed at such a rapid pace that it has become alarming to think of the trend the future generation seems deemed to follow.
The social media being both a blessing and a curse, it is imperative that proper use of the same be instilled in the minds of our young people. One such look at them has revealed that this young generation seems far removed from prayer and spirituality which is the essence of the journey of our body on this earth.
Luring and fancies have set them apart from the church which is the body of Christ. One can almost visualize our Lord literally thirsting for the youth of today to come towards him to the Cross and be refreshed in the right perspective.
It is said that Prayer is the most important conversation of the day which we have to take it to the Lord first before we take it to anyone else. Also we should keep praying not until God listens to us but until we listen to God. Truly said!
At times we are so taken up with numerous requests and petitions that we fail to listen to that soft gentle message which the Lord is trying to get across to us.
We seem intent on our own prayer mission without involving the response being given from above.
In life it is very important to be in sync. with the Lord's own needs along with our own.
I am reminded of a beautiful saying;"Dont walk in front of me, I may not follow. Dont walk behind me. I may not lead. Walk beside me and together we will walk in love."
Such a beautiful Phrase. If we run ahead hastily with our requests without stopping to look back at our Lord, he may not follow us in granting our needs. If we lag behind and do not listen to his voice, he may not direct us from above. What we need to do is walk with the Lord, that is listen to his voice and accept his will. When we do so we can gel our own prayers to His Holy and Sacred heart to be definitely heard.
Our relationship with God is so much more important and in the forefront before our relationship with others.
There is a lovely quote that some reasons make relationships precious. But only precious relationships are made with no reasons.
Love is the most fragile and delicate relationship and yet the most beautiful and priceless. When we love without any reasoning or justification but follow our heart it will lead us into the best moments that we can experience in our lifetime.
This month is devoted to the Sacred Heart of our Lord. A heart which thirsted for our love, acceptance, redemption and attention.
Just as Jesus alone can quench the thirst of our soul until eternal life, similarly we alone can quench the Lord's thirst that none of his sheep will be lost but safely enfolded in his gracious and ever flaming heart.
A long time ago Jesus promised the Samaritan woman when he was on this earth that he would give her the waters of eternal life. This promise is extended to each and every one of us provided we acknowledge him as our Lord, Master and Saviour.
In the Old Testament we see how the angel of God appeared in the desert and quenched the thirst of Hagaar and her son Ishmael thus providing them with a well of water when they were exhausted to dropping point. He did not allow them to languish when all the water they were carrying was consumed.
In another desert, we see Moses striking the rock to bring forth water by the power of God when the people tested the Lord at the waters of Meribah. It was the Lord who satisfied their physical thirst on both occasions.
In the New Testament we see how Mary the sister of Lazarus sits at the feet of our Lord to listen to his teachings with full intent of quenching her thirst for the Wisdom of God.
But today there is a greater demand for spiritual thirst. This is the thirst that is quenched with the very waters flowing from heaven through the Word of God, the Eucharist and Power of the Holy Spirit.
God has provided all three on the very surface of this earth and right into our being when we are consecrated with the graces of each Sacrament.
We have indeed been equipped with all the necessary blessings to fulfill both our physical and spiritual thirst until the day we sip from the very pitcher of heaven. On that day, our thirst will end when we encounter Jesus standing in front of us with a happy expression as His own thirst will be eased having saved us for himself at last to be forever at his side in His Father's glory.
