Faithful Fishing
“Why is Peter’s chin dropped open?” some disciples may have joked as they watched Peter staring at Jesus, who stood facing him, apparently giving him instructions. Up close, we hear Jesus’ words from Matthew 17:27 NKJV: “…go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”
A miracle! Peter just needs to, by faith, obey to see this miracle.
Imagine, Peter standing at the shore with his fishing line in the water, “What is about to happen?” Can you imagine the leap in his stomach when the fishing line tugged? Or the excitement that ran through his racing heart as he held the fish in his hands, preparing to open its mouth? Or the big smile and wide eyes on his face as the fish’s opened mouth exposed a shiny coin?… a miracle!
Peter believed in Jesus’ instructions, no matter how bizarre they sounded. He held tightly to his faith in Jesus his Lord; therefore, Peter obeyed Jesus, and was blessed with the experience of a miracle.
We are all in Peter’s shoes right now. Jesus gives us guidance, instructions, commands, and He floods it all with His love. His precious hand will surely take us out of our comfort zone. But keep your faithful eyes open. He will reward your faithful works with goodness and possibly a miracle!
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. (Ephesians 3:20 NKJV)
