...according to what we do
The New York Daily News has caused a stir of conflict by a comment made in reference to the California Massacre and the statements by a few Politicians that we should pray for the people involved, and for our Nation.
The Daily News writer thinks we should "do" more gun restriction laws while the politicians quoted think that the gun restriction laws are adequate, and suggest we appeal to God for wisdom and help.
We may ask, "Who is correct in the statements made?"
It may sound to some as if the Daily News has it right. One could only assume that conclusion IF prayer is considered a "nothing" thing to do.
What God will do is solely dependent on what the people of God do, or do not do.
The "DO" is the crux of this debate.
To take away guns from the general public is the answer that The Daily News writer is advocating. To pray, is the "Do" action that is the admonition of the Politicians who addressed this matter.
Yes, there is a "DO" thing for us to do, but which will be the effective thing to do?
We already have Gun Control and it works for the law abiding, but it does not work in the case of the unlawful; they are "unlawful" because they don't live by the Laws of the Land.
There is no hope for effective answers unless we know some basic factors of living.
The Bible is full of instances such as these in war and conflict situations in Israel's history.
Those accounts were written, and have been preserved for us so that they may educate us about "HOW GOD deals with humanity." Romans 15: 4, I Corinthians 10:11 NIV.
Allow me please to cite one of those accounts from I Chronicles 5: 18 - 22: The account is about three Tribes of Israel, the Ruebenites, the Gaditites, and the half Tribe of Manasseh. They had a composite of men trained for battle Military Service of 44, 760. They waged war on the Hagrites and won the battle, BUT it was not because of their skill or their numbers.
Here is what the historical account of the Bible tells us about it: They won the battle, not because they were skilled or mighty in number but rather, "because God came to their aid."
So why did God involve Himself in THIS battle?
It was, "Because they, (the warriors of the three Tribes) cried out to God during the battle. "He answered their prayers because they trusted in Him." I Chronicles 5: 20b
Because they called out to Him and trusted in Him, God fought for them, and they won.
God DOES respond to prayers that are prayed to Him.
Our enemy, individual or corporately, may look bigger than we are able to combat, but there is no enemy too big for God to conquer.
If the "DO" we do is not the "DO" of PRAYER, then nothing we do will win us the battle. Our enemy is violent against us, God is our HOPE, and He is called upon by the action of PRAYER.
Praying is a powerful DO to DO.
Therefore, my question to the author of The Daily Times and those who applaud that written statement is, "Have you prayed; are you trusting God, the God Who cannot lie, to FIX IT?"
Perhaps not. But for those who have trusted and do pray, and believe God for intervention, we have instructions from God, with the PROMISE that He will respond IF we do these things: II Chronicles 7:14
So Readers, it depends on what we do:
*Humble ourselves; that should be easy right now, this situation is bigger than any of us, and we know it.
*Pray; all that is, is calling out to God, softly, pleadingly, or with loud cries and shouts.
*Seek His Face; you have drawn close to God when you can see His Face.
*Forsake our Wicked Ways, those actions known to us as sins, because they violate God's Holiness, and also His requirements of us; sin cannot stand in the Presence of God. However, all we have to do is to "forsake those sins," turning away from them, leaving them out of our lives because God says to do so.
"THEN," says the God Who CAN DO, "I will come and heal your land."
It is His PROMISE and He will do it, but it is correct to know that there is something we must "DO" and the "Do" is to pray and ask God to forgive us, and then be willing to leave off the sins that are offensive to God.
If we chose to try to fix it alone, we may easily lose our Nation and become the slaves of those who hate us. That has happened in the past.
It has also happened in the past that individual persons and Nations, prayed and confessed their sin to God, calling on God for help, and He responded and won the battle for them.
So, is God fixing this?
It will be according to the "DO," we do.
