"The Apple Cart”:
“The Apple Cart’s a rockin, wheels are just a wobblin, and it seems ready to topple with the slightest sideways breeze”. Have you ever felt like this Apple Cart describes your life? Have you ever found yourself crying out “NOW WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO”? It’s pretty easy to look around our world today, and feel the spirits of “woe, worry, fear, & abandonment” creeping up on us… We start to shake our fist at the sky and yell “WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME”? We grit our teeth and growl. Stomp the ground, & bow our backs. Close our eyes and shout at the top of our lungs blaming, binding and casting out the enemy for this inconvenience. We quote Bible verses and boldly declare our power & authority in Jesus name, so all can hear and see our steadfast determination. Once we quit our “Holy Fit”. We stand for a moment, and watch for the heavens to respond. We wait for our Apple Cart’s wheels to miraculously tighten up and stabilize. We fully expect the rocks & ruts in the road ahead to disappear and smooth out, as it bows before our sovereignty. Cupping our hand to our ear, we listen for the triumphant trumpet chords: “TA-DAAA”, from the heavens! While the sun shines brighter, and the birdies beginning to sing. Ahhh, all is as it should be once again. Now we can continue on our days journey with a lighter step, while whistling a happy little tune. All in the glory, and splendor, of our authority over the universe.– right?
Sometimes I wonder if The Lord of Heaven looks down, and with a groan, shakes His head in disbelief, then responds by suddenly rerunning that episode of “Mayberry” on the movie screen in our mind. You know, the episode where Opie’s new friend encourages him to throw a fit in front of his Paw, so he can get the new bike he wants. Opie goes to the Sheriffs’ office, and politely asks his Paw for the bike one more time. But Paw says: “Now Son, we already talked about this.” Opie calmly takes a few steps back from Paw’s desk, lays on the floor, and begins to throw his fit. Arms and legs are thrashing about, fake cries and howling of agony fills the air. But after a few minutes of his rant and rage. Opie suddenly shuts off his fit - and looks out of the corner of his eye for his Paw's reaction. Andy quietly asks: “Ahhhh - Son - whatcha doin down there”? Opie, in a tone of calm resolve, answers: “I’m throwing a fit, so you’ll give me the bike”. Andy just says: “Ohhhhh - alright then - just go on ahead with your fit - but don’t get your pants dirty”, (as he turns his attention back to his work).
Our Father God is the ONLY ONE sovereign over the universe. – And the ONLY ONE that deserves ANY glory at all for it. Not that we don’t have authority over our enemy. Not that we can’t bind him, canceling and moving the enemies hindering attempts with our declarations of God’s Word and promises for us. Not that He doesn’t need, and use, us to carry out His will here on earth. But not EVERY “bump in the road”, on our daily journey, is from our enemy! If we’ve truly “given our lives to Jesus” to guide and direct us. There may be a few things Father God needs to work out of us - BEFORE He can graduate us to the next level and assignment. But how does He do this?
Let's look at the story of Joseph, as recounted in Psalms 105:6-22: (16): "Moreover, He, (Father God), called for a famine upon the land, (of Egypt); He cut off every source of bread. He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold as a servant. His feet they hurt with fetters; he was laid in chains of iron and his soul entered into the iron, until his word, [dream], (to his cruel brothers), came true, until the word of the Lord tried and tested him." AMP.
Remember the story of the Smelter, smelting the precious metal until all the impurities float to the top, and are then removed from the mix. The smelting process is said to be finished and purified, only when the Smelter can see a clear, mirror reflection of himself on the surface of the molten metal. And whatever form he casts the molten metal into.
Or watch an episode of “Forged in Fire”. Where they choose a piece of steel – stick it in the fire to heat it up until the fire makes it glow red - pull it out of the fire and beat, and beat, and beat on it. After they beat on it awhile, they stick it back into the fire, and start this process all over again. The Smelter may be refining the precious metal. But the Forger is “reforming” the steel, even steel that's already been refined, “repurposing” it from what it was – to what he now needs, a hammer to tear down, or build up – a kitchen utensil to use in serving others nourishing food - a spear or sword for battle; ...
Wherever you may find yourself today. Whether in the Smelter’s pot – being internally refined – or in the Forger’s fire, at the will of his hand, being repurposed for the next task –Thank your God for His never ending love, mercy and grace, in wanting to make you better, and wanting to use you for His glory and kingdom. I guarantee it will be worth it for eternity as you overcome…..
