Before a person walks the length of a church isle and rededicates their life to Christ, there was an initial surrender. God draws individuals through Holy Spirit conviction of personal sin. Placing their faith in Jesus, they confess their sin and repent.
Instantaneously, they are born again. Sensing all that he has done for us, Christians have dedicated the rest of our lives to following him. Once lost, in desperation we asked forgiveness of our sins and trusted Jesus as our personal Savior.
With gratitude and submission, we accepted him as LORD of all.
When sent on mission by God, the Prophet Jonah reneged on his dedication to the LORD. Jehovah God, who does indeed work in mysterious ways, brought conviction to the heart of Jonah. In the solitary confinement of a great fish, Jonah rededicated his life to his Maker.
“I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God. When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD (Jonah 2:6-9 KJV).”
The spirit was willing; his flesh was weak. In entirety, the Book of Job reveals his rebellion against God’s mercy towards humanity.
