Sufficient for the Day
One day at a time, I pray my sweet Lord
A fresh start each new day, my soul restored
All of my yesterdays are gone, wiped away
New and fresh are the new blessings for this day
Forgotten today are all of the troubles past
These sorrows gone, they were never meant to last
Today my heart is by You refreshed and renewed
Only scars remain of the troubles yesterday brewed
Over my shoulder at yesterday I no longer look
Instead taking in my Daily Bread from the Good Book
No longer tomorrow’s horizon do I hold in view
But I focus instead my eyes only upon You
For yesterday there is no sorrow and mourning
Because today, as promised, joy comes in the morning
Nor more tomorrow’s worry borrowed today
Troubles and His grace both sufficient for the day
Brothers and Sisters,
I have two themes that continually are circling in my brain.
First is TODAY and today only. There is no more yesterdays and no tomorrow is promised to anyone. Today is the day we need to focus on, today is the day we need to pray. Today is the day we must concentrate our efforts upon. Yesterday’s are gone and are only good for lessons learned. Tomorrow is nothing to worry about…it will worry about itself. There is only today to focus on Christ and Him crucified. Today is the day the Lord has made and I will be glad in it.
Second theme is Ephesians 6, the Whole Armor of God. I know this has been the theme to a good portion of my poems, but it seems never to be enough. The Armor and the battles to come are at the forefront of my mind. So there is a contradiction between these two themes. My Ephesians 6 themed articles have been about battles past and those to come (even the one I have in progress now is connecting yesterday and tomorrow with a touch of today).
I don’t understand the why behind these two themes or the contradiction, but I am ever obedient to the leadings of the Spirit. I hope these are helpful and a blessing to others. I am only the pen but I take great joy in knowing that my obedience has helped others. So learn from yesterday, focus on today, and prepare for the battle of the future.
God bless.

I think understanding came towards the end Chris. "So learn from yesterday, focus on today, and prepare for the battle of the future." That is what we must do, put on the armor today, in preparation for the inevitable battle. It must be done today, there is no tomorrow, hence we must focus on today.
