Are You A Glory Seeker?
© 2014
by
Stephen A. Peterson
A man’s pride will bring him low; but the humble in spirit will retain honor.
Proverbs 29:23 (NIV)
The glory-seeker is an actor, but a poor box office attraction. In her/his theatrics, this person sings their own praises—an annoying solo. Such a person is nothing but a strutting performer whose conceit bores their audience. The glory seeker desires to blossom, but defiles them self. Desiring to be a giant among humanity, he/she makes her-/him-self a dwarf. While no one is able to wear such a person’s hat, just about anyone can fill their shoes.
What a wonderful person this individual would-be who wishes all of humanity to see and this person could see, if the glory seeker would be only an as-is. For there is prestige in being your honored self, your humble, sincere, unselfish self-depending on the God who made you who deserves the glory.
Prayer:
Father, help me to avoid being a glory seeker which is a sign of a lack of faith in You as well as a flaw my personal character. Grant me, Father, humility which recognizes ignorance, admits to mistakes, understands its need in my life, welcomes advice, excepts rebuke and correction. Help me to assist others, when asked or needed, praise rather than criticism, encouragement rather than discouragement, build rather than destroy my fellow human. Help me also to regard others at their best rather than at their worse, forgive rather than hold grudges, love rather than harm. These things I pray. Amen.
