Hebrews 9:
16 For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives.
Grace and Peace be unto you my brothers and sisters,
I would like to talk about death, this is a subject that no one likes discussing but it is an essential part of life. I will even suggest that death is life and life is death and we can not separate the two. The scriptures teaches that we must die daily and to live is Christ and to die is gain. The subject matter is so complex that I will not attempt to exhaust all of the benefits and significances of death however: I will begin with the statement that death is necessary.
A seed must die and be placed in the soil to produce life for example; a dead seed produces live plants, shrubs, and trees. The scripture text declares," 7 For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives"(Hebrews 9:17). In other words, a will can not be enforced until the individual who wrote the will dies therefore; death of the testator is necessary prior to the execution of his or her will. This is the reason Jesus Christ had to be crucified and buried which he is a type of seed...the seed of Abraham, Christ (the Son of God)had to die for the Father's (God) will to be executed. You remember when Jesus declared,"not my will but your will be done".
Death is an end of one stage of life and the beginning of another stage of life, eternal life for those who have died and for those who are survived and are heirs it is the beginning of another stage in life. For example in Isaiah 6:1," In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. After the King had died that is when Isaiah received his call to be a prophet, could it be that Isaiah could not get the total revelation of who the Lord was until the King was removed. Many of us have made gods out of other people and things and that is why death is necessary so that we can see the Lord, the one and only True God.
Death of the Law was necessary so that we as believers in Christ Jesus by and through faith can live life under Grace. There is no remission (forgiveness) of sin without the shedding of blood. Death is necessary to be forgiven of our sins.
