Scripture Verse
If God is for us, who can be against us? -- Romans 8:31b (NKJV)
Meditation
Apollo 13 is one of my favorite movies. I often think about an early scene when the astronauts are in the simulator. One of the team working the test boards throws a “false indicator light” at them. As he does, he says of the pilot, “Let’s see what he does with this.”
Too often, I feel that God is sitting at that test board, throwing one false indicator after another at me. I can almost hear Him say, “Let’s see what she does with this.”
That couldn’t be further from the truth. God is for us, not against. He doesn’t throw things at us to test us, to see if we’ll respond correctly or break. He allows us to go through periods of testing – of our own making – but He doesn’t sit behind a board, conspiring and saying, “Let’s see what she does with this.” Talk about a false indicator light!
Why do I sometimes see God in that false way? This comes from heart wounds that haven’t been healed. These wounds may have been caused by people who threw curve balls at me, purposely or accidentally. Or maybe no one ever meant to test me and I just perceived it that way.
Unhealed wounds and their effects are real, whether or not they were intended. If I don’t allow God to heal those wounds, they will continue to block my relationship with Him. I will continually have those moments when I see Him sitting there, pushing a button and saying, “Let’s see what she does with this.”
God is for us, not against. If you don’t know that truth with your whole heart, He is willing to show you why, and to help you heal.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being for us, not against. Thank You that You love us. That You don’t conspire to test us. That instead, You are working overtime to bring us healing in our hearts, so that we may fully receive and know Your love. Help us to recognize when we have a false way of seeing You. Help us to get to know the Real You better. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Thought for the Day
Are there ways you see God wrongly in your heart? Ask Him to heal your heart, so you can see the real God who loves you.
