Poetry
Gentle ripples lapped against my rocking craft
The sun casting luminous rays
As just a single shaft
Aimed at me upon the sea
All troubles that worried me before-
All burdens
Were left on the shore
Like bubbles so easily broken
They have no say
Like silence where no voices have spoken
Just me and the sea and my cup of cool tea
Relaxed and free
How good to be away if just for the day
From all of life's pressures and problems
From people who hound me like goblins
Until a spiteful breeze that promised to please
Turned like a traitor, like a sharp toothed gator
And blew too hard on my ocean
Black, nimbus stratified, soon accumulating cumulous
Now puffy and black, stead of sun on my back
Dismally shrouds my rays with dark clouds
Winds blew cross... yet I shot no albatross
No fault of my own the wind had grown
I question why--but no reason is shown
No answer is given from earth or from heaven
Alas the rains flew sidelong, water-wings, stinging
The howling gale a tempest song singing
A crash and boom--a flash and soon
Fright from powerfully electric light
From the heavens thunderbolts singeing my sight
Deceitful, that fickle sea that smiled at me
Roiled up waves in a violent wet haze
Tossed my boat as a fishing line float
Flinging salt in my eyes and my throat
For land I now searched, yet three sixty about
Found nothing but wetness--heard my own shrill shout
The shore! I cried, where is the blessed shore?
Oh for dear earth beneath my feet!
I was learning
For those burdens on shore: Was I yearning?!
Oh woe is me, up rose the waves
Ore turning my frail little vessel
A panicked plea from fearful me: Lord save me!
It was only me in that unloving sea
It felt like my boat was in my throat
For my vessel I no longer see
I flailed in the water to stay afloat
Singly me and the turbulent sea--screaming a soprano note
With danger of drowning and danger of lightning
The dangers beneath me were equally frightening
Slimy, slithering creatures down there
For all I knew: Leviathan's lair
In black waters dwelling: the unknown
The dark thought of death then swooped down
Taking over my brain like I was insane
For I'd lived my life like a clown
Woe is me, had been my refrain
From silly small things and miniscule pain
Before that day with my teacher the sea
When for the first time I really saw me
I'll take the agitators Lord!--Send me those goblins!
I was wrong to complain of such trivial pain
Thank you for the life you have given
Just save me now--reach down from heaven
Suddenly, my ears heard a loud ringing
Whistles and bells and clamorous singing
I opened my peepers and saw flashing beepers
To my shock twas my alarm clock to wake sleepers
A dream! All a bad dream it would seem
I entered the day like a glorious Saint
And met all of my problems without a complaint
