As the year draws to an end and we move closer to Christmas, a season we celebrate the birth of our Saviour. A season filled with merriment and joyful tidings of God’s grace and love to humanity. In the sense that while we were still sinners and lost, he sent his only son to reconcile us to him. As we will celebrate the season in his love and by his grace, we should not forget the significance of the “holy birth”
Christ came to save us, that those who believe in him will be granted eternal life. He brought the message of salvation to us. For he said;”except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” when Christ was speaking to Nicodemus on this issue of being born again, he said to him” being born again is the criterion for seeing the kingdom of God. Then Nicodemus confused and filled with doubts asked; How can an old man like me be born again? Am I going to enter my mother’s womb the second time and be born? . The saviour smiling, answered him saying; oh no! It is not by going into the mother’s womb the second time but it is to be born of water and spirit. In order words, baptism and sanctification
Baptism has to do with us burying our old sinful nature in the waters of baptism and emerging with a new spirit within us. Sanctification is the purification of our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Baptism is a covenant we make with God to forsake our sins and be obedient to his commandments
When we agree to go into the waters of baptism and keep the covenants made with God at that point, we’re being born in the spirit and start a new walk with him. By continuing in this walk with him, we are renewed in our mind each day of our lives. As we go on in this, we begin to grow in strength into spiritual maturity. So, Christ is standing at the door of your heart, knocking. Why not open your heart to him and let him come in and take charge of your life and you will never remain the same again
