Sunday 9-16-12 Pastor Michael sermon =Who Is Asking? The Pitfalls of Unanswered Prayer James 4:1-6
==================================================================================================================================
Who is asking a request of us is as important as the request itself. When people that we don’t have a personal relationship with start asking personal questions, we think… who is asking? In James the church was complaining about their prayers not being answered by God. James said its not God that the problem lies with but with who is asking the prayers. This church was in a big mess with all this back biting, fighting and contention. God doesn’t answer prayer that has to do with fighting among you. vs. 1-2. They were not asking with the right motivation.
The church had clashes between the rich church members and the poor church members. They were asking prayers according to their agenda and God had shut up the heavens. God wants us to pursue things for his purpose and his agenda and not ours. They were asking God to bless them so they could show off to others. When people have riches they don’t go to church. When people are broke and have hard times then they go to church to seek help from God. God is not in the business of blessing us so we then cut him off. Having a lot of stuff cannot always please you and cannot make your sickness go away. A new car cannot stop your headache! We need a relationship with God and only blessing-praising God can help us to be content. Blessing God is the secret to being content. Chasing after stuff: cars, money, riches cannot do us any good. Its only when we chase after God, then the blessings will be showered on us.
Its coming, its on the way!!!! Keep on Praising God!!!!!
He is not done with us yet!!!!!
The people in James’s church were talking about each other. The quickest way to get God to cut us off is to put our mouths on people. Talking about them, murdering them, killing them with our mouths. God cuts our blessing off when we do this. Anytime we put our mouth on one of God’s children, we get cut off! God wants us to love our neighbors as ourselves. We have to first get things straight with them then praise God.
1) Keep Short Accounts: When someone does stuff to us, release it and let it go. Don’t hang on to it. If we want God to forgive us then forgive them and let it go. Remember the goodness of Jesus and all that he has done for us. Let it go! Its not worth losing our blessing over it!
2) Contrite Prayers: These are prayers that show repentance and they are answered by God. He gives a greater grace to the humble. Vs 6
God gives a greater grace=Mega Favor=to those who humble themselves. Mega Favor comes if we don’t rob God of tithes, don’t try to show off what we have to others, don’t try to impress but instead we are obedient to God and put him FIRST!!! God resist the proud and gives Mega Favor to the humble! God will bless us so much that we will have to break off some to give to the people around us!!
Mega Favor from God! Get Ready! Get Ready! PRAISE GOD !!!
Amen
