Encouragement
"Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Psalms 23:4
Have we ever wondered what is our driving force in life? What keeps us going and propels us towards our goal in life? Is it our aims, ambitions or even our memories? Do we walk with a purpose in life sure of where we are headed and of what we want in life?
The Walk to Emmaus is a very beautiful journey where the Risen Lord goes ahead to Jerusalem and catches up with His disciples at Emmaus who are on their way back to Galilee. Here, we see the Lord is very much walking with a purpose. The disciples are sad and dejected after having witnessed the crucifixion of our Lord and still more incredulous at hearing from the women that He had risen. They were hoping that Jesus would have been their king and saved them. But, they were looking only at the things of the earth instead of the larger picture. Hence, the Lord explains the scriptures to them and opens their eyes in the breaking of bread. He admonishes them for not believing that He was the one whom the Old Testament spoke about. The apostles later recall how their hearts had burned within them when the Lord had spoken the Word and they returned back to Jerusalem to complete the Lord's work.
There may have been many instances in our life when the Word of God has moved and melted our hearts, it has given us strength and hope, it has dissolved all our fears and made us bold and courageous enough to go out and preach to others. In the Word there is life, there is healing, the scriptures are our treasure as we walk towards the heavenly path.
How many times are we truly convinced in our hearts that the Lord has gone ahead and prepared things for us in advance even before we have asked for it? He has ensured that all is in order and success is just waiting to greet us all on account of the Lord's efforts?
There are times when we are highly charged and want to do so much for the Lord but physical limitations bear us down. These are the times when we have to remember that God fills in and adds His own strength into us enabling us to complete His work, to preach His word and make disciples of nations.
There are many people in the world today who think they walk alone but it is never so. Because the Lord is always walking with us, be it the dark night or bright day. He is holding our hands and we have to just trust in Him to lead us safely home as we traverse the difficult paths of life. We do not know what the future has in store for us but we do certainly know that every moment is under His control. He molds destiny for us, nothing happens without His plan or purpose. We may be walking in the dark regarding many issues but the Lord has already seen the light much before we can ever do so.
Let's walk the beautiful journey of time and life accompanied by faith hope and love in the Lord with the promise that it is going to be an enjoyable one.
