Encouragement
There is a song called, “I give myself away,” the song is referring to the person giving themselves away to God. Can you think about that for a moment, let it soak in your mind your heart and your spirit- giving yourself away.
What would happen if all of us in the body of Christ sought to give ourselves away-to Him? The song goes on to say, “I give myself away so that you can use me”. That is the most beautiful sentiment I think I’ve heard this year. I can take no credit for the lyrics of this song that say, “take my heart, take my life, as a living sacrifice, all my dreams, all my plans, Lord I place them in your hands. My life is not my own, to YOU I belong, I give myself, I give myself, to YOU.”
This song is a gift! It is a beautiful manifestation of God’s love toward us. If we would only heed the call and give ourselves away. But how does one go about giving themselves away you might ask. We are given the opportunity to give ourselves away throughout our day, when we wake up in the morning and instead of a complaint-we send up a praise! When we begin our morning prayers and instead of saying, “Bless me Lord for what you see I stand in need of, we say bless Sister Brenda, or bless Sister Minnie, or Sister Pat, Lord you know their need, you know their struggle, I touch and I agree with whatever the need is, let it be manifested in their lives!
We give ourselves away when we ask the Lord to pour out His Spirit on us, so that it will be LESS (B-LESS) of us and more of God! We give ourselves away when we dismiss our plans, our goals and our dreams and we ask the Father to take us, mold us, and shape us as He will for his glory, for his honor, so that the body of Christ is blessed.
We give ourselves away when our wants, needs, and desires become secondary to advancing the Kingdom of God! Those of us in the body of Christ who are true believers realize that everything that God has set in front of us is simply a path to do the will of our Father who sent us here. When we go in to work for the day, yes we have an obligation to the employer, but we have a further obligation to share the word of God! We have an obligation to bless someone else, to bring a loss soul into the Kingdom, to live our lives in a way that we advance the Kingdom. For the bible says that we were predestined, that we were once with God that we knew God! Hallelujah Jesus! We give ourselves away when giving stops becoming a sacrifice, when we truly take no thought of what we shall eat, or what we shall drink, when we truly know, that if God has clothed the lilies of the field, how much more will he do for those that love him and keep his commandments! Thank you Lord Jesus!
We give ourselves away when we purposely set out determined to bless someone else not simply in words but in deeds. For the bible says when I was hungry you gave me no food, and when I was thirsty you gave me no drink, and the disciples asked when did we do this—and Jesus answered when you did it to the least of these you did it unto me. That’s why we have to be determined to be a blessing, prayerful that we not miss our opportunity to bless someone else.
When we let go of our plans, goals and desires and seek the will of the Father, we speak in loving kindness, we love without condition, we give more than we receive, and we die daily unto self, as we pick up our cross and follow Him, we give ourselves away.
To God be the glory for the things He has done!
I Give Myself Away
Chorus:
I give myself away
I give myself away
So You can use me
I give myself away
I give myself away
So You can use me
Verse 1:
Here I am
Here I stand
Lord, my life is in your hands
Lord, I'm longing to see
Your desires revealed in me
I give myself away
Verse 2:
Take my heart
Take my life
As a living sacrifice
All my dreams all my plans
Lord I place them in your hands
Bridge:
My life is not my own
To you I belong
I give myself, I give myself to you
