Matt 6:21
21 For where your treasure is there will your heart be also.
KJV
Matt 12:35
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
KJV
2 Cor. 4:7
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
KJV
Now, let us look at Hezekiah. Our reference will be Isaiah 38 and 39. Hezekiah was desperately ill, and the prophet Isaiah brought him a message from God that he was going to die.
Hezekiah was terribly distraught, and began to plead with God. God heard his prayer and his desperation, and sent Isaiah to tell him that He would heal him and add 15 years to Hezekiah’s life. Hezekiah continued to lay up earthly treasures. God even gave a sign to seal His promise. He moved the sun back 10 degrees on the sundial.
Later, the king of Babylon sent a gift to Hezekiah by some of his representatives, because he had heard that Hezekiah had been very ill, but had recovered. We are not told that Hezekiah gave one word of praise to God for the fact that Hezekiah had been touched by God and given more years to live. The scriptures state that Hezekiah showed the men all of his treasures. The emphasis was totally upon himself, and not God.
Isa 39:1-2
39 At that time Merodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.
2 And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
KJV
What do we show people when they come to our house? Are there signs of our love for Christ, or, do we, like Hezekiah, proudly display the things that we have, with no mention of our Heavenly Father who gives us all things to enjoy? Our God is worthy of praise for His provisions and compassions for man.
Prayer: Our dear Heavenly Father, You have provided so many things for us in life. You have held us in your arms when we have gone through bitter trials. You have delivered us from the attacks of Satan and kept us upon solid ground. By Your Spirit, we pray that you would tug at our heart at every opportunity we have to share of Your love and care with others. May Your praise be uppermost in our hearts and minds. Plant within us a desire to glorify only You, with all that we say and all that we do, and all that You have provided for us. We do love you Lord, for your very presence with us, and Your love that sustains us. Help us to share with others what You have planted within our hearts. Amen
I do not own the “things” I possess.
They are loaned to me for a while.
I must only be the steward of them,
Share them, and help someone smile.
I must also share the Owner
And the Giver of earthly Gifts.
The One who every day,
Gives my heart a lift.
For when I leave this earth
There’s nothing I can take
The only things that will count
Are what I did for Jesus sake.
