A disgraceful execution,
An agony of pain,
And just because He loved me
He willingly was slain.
And just because He loved me
Desertion He endured,
He faced the horrors of that day,
Alone my grace procured.
Humiliation and defeat,
The thorns upon His brow,
The mockery, the taunts, the jeers,
That I might know Him now.
And just because He loved me
The spikes, the fiery pain,
The drops of blood He shed that day
For all that I would gain.
And as He hung there on that cross
The birds of prey would flock,
And insects swarmed His wounds that day
While men around Him mocked.
The agony He bore that day
Both pain and separation,
For God in justice looked away
From sin's abomination.
For all my sins hung on Him there,
The evil I have done,
And just because He loved me
He bore it...and He won.
"That is why Christ said, as he came into the world, 'O God, the blood of bulls and goats cannot satisfy you, so you have made ready this body of mine for me to lay as a sacrifice upon your altar.'"
"For by that one offering he made forever perfect in the sight of God all those whom he is making holy." Hebrews 10:5,14 (The Living Bible)
