The Lord was with Joseph
My favorite biblical character is Joseph, you can read about him in Genesis chapters 37-50. He was his father’s favorite son. His Father gave him a coat of colors because of his great love for Joseph
. Joseph walked with the Lord and God gave him some dreams about his future. His brothers were jealous of him when he shared those dreams with them. As a result they sold him into slavery and he eventually became second in command of Egypt. He suffered much. But the Lord was with Joseph in all that he did.
Can you imagine how he must have felt when he was sold by his brothers? I would have felt rejected and fearful, however Scripture doesn’t indicate he was fearful or felt rejected. Toward the end of the story, Joseph is reunited with his brothers. They do not recognize him, but he recognizes them. Joseph forgave his brothers and made sure they had enough food to eat during the famine that took place where they lived. Joseph brought his brothers and his father to Egypt. The dream's God gave him came true. He did rule over his brothers.
The most important part of the story though, is the fact that the Lord was with Joseph in all he did. I believe his strong faith in God is what kept him from becoming bitter and unforgiving.
The following is a list of verses where the phrase the Lord was with him can be found: Genesis 39:2- And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man, and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
Genesis 39:21-But the LORD was with Joseph and shewed him mercy and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
The LORD gave him favor wherever he went and whatever, he did. Joseph was a Godly man. He displayed trust in the LORD, courage in the face of what appeared to be a tragedy when his brothers sold him, but also when Pharoah's wife lied about him, and he was sent to prison for something he did not do. Joseph also displayed forgiveness.
Application: Let us try to remember what Joseph knew, to trust in the LORD.
Psalm 16:11-In thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
Psalm 73 is a great Psalm-read the whole thing. Here are a few verses that will encourage you too:
Psalm 73:23-26- Nevertheless, I am continually with thee: thou hast Holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
Prayer: Lord help me to remember to trust in you when I suffer and daily, In Jesus name, Amen. By Zorrine Bailey © 2010
