Encouragement
To be CONTENT, we must begin with God.
We need to stop craving 'gadgets' as life is more about a New Life in Christ....
than 'new' life that is shown on TV, in movies, gadgets, sports, etc.
"No one can serve two masters". (Matt. 6: 24)
We are to seek first, the Kingdom of God and His righteousness...
and necessary things will be added unto us.
Ultimately it is God Who takes care of our needs.
Since God is our Heavenly Father, we will always have enough....
maybe not all that we 'want'...but all that we'll need.
We all seek CONTENTMENT. It is a tragedy when we are satisfied with trivia or trinkets, but never get around to the Biblical 'Recipe for CONTENTMENT'.
I had a good 'Recipe for CONTENTMENT' in:
~Loving, Godly parents
~Growing up on a farm with 3 wonderful brothers
~Having great schools and teachers
~Learning Spiritual truths in a warm, loving Church
Since then, a Godly wife has added to this contentment for over 56 yrs.
Our precious children and grandchildren have also added to that contentment.
However my greatest source of CONTENTMENT began at 12 yrs. of age when I invited Jesus into my life to be my Savior. For 70 years I've sought to serve Him as Lord of my life.
There is no greater CONTENTMENT than having Him as Lord and serving Him in all things.
I'm sure that I have disappointed Him at times, but He has NEVER disappointed me!
Here is my study of Philippians 4.
Hopefully it will help you as we learn what is Needed for COMMITMENT.
RIGHT POSSESSIONS:
~a heart made right with God
~a living faith in God
~a Will totally surrendered to God
RIGHT RELATIONSHIPS:
~vertical relationship with God established through faith in Jesus Christ
~horizontal relationship with people
(set and maintained by the love of Christ working in and through you)
We are to love people and use things....not love 'things' and use people.
'Things' make good servants, but are terrible masters.
RIGHT OUTLOOK:
Many in the Bible had great outlooks, particular in difficult times.
The Apostle Paul shares some of these in Philippians 4.
~Vs. 3-4: "Rejoice in the Lord always"
~Vs. 5: "The Lord is always near. He will never leave us nor forsake us." (Hebrews 13:5)
Years ago, Barbara Johnson (who went through MANY personal difficulties) wrote:
'How to Have CONTENTMENT':
"When do we really live?
When do we find fulfillment and come to see what life is really meant to be?
When we have a faith fit to:
~live by
~a self fit to live with
~a work fit to live for
~someone to love and be loved.
When we learn how to use time and not just kill it...
~when we want less
~love more and lend a helping hand to others.
When we are wise enough to live one day at a time, letting yesterday go...
and not living tomorrow until it arrives.
When we have read great books of vision and beauty....
when we know and live by the one Great Book, letting It guide and dominate our lives.
When we know how to:
~worship
~relax
~forgive
~pray
~laugh
~live with God and serve Him.
Most of all, we learn how to live when we do not take life for granted, but for gratitude."
D.L. Moody said:
"Trust in yourself and you are doomed to disappointment.
Trust in your friends and they will die and leave you.
Trust in money and you may have it taken from you.
Trust in reputation and some slanderous tongue may blast it.
But trust in God and you will never to be confounded in time....nor eternity."

Another beautiful article filled with gems of truth and wisdom. Without Him I don't see how anyone could be content. He helps us to be content whether with little or much. May God continue to bless you both as you continue to bless us. In His love, your friend, Sharon
