Hi,
I would have just replied to my own thread (Page Turner Rules) but that thread is coming up "No posts exist for this topic"
So here I am with a New Topic.
Not sure if this one will fare better or not.
I am wondering when we can expect an announcement about this? I am new and I have no clue what the Page Turner is.... so I am a little anxious to hear about it and decide if I want to be involved.
THANKS!
Page Turner / How much longer?

Sorry for the delay...
Due to unavoidable circumstances, the new 2009 Page Turner guidelines have not yet been updated but it should be posted very soon. And there will definitely be an announcement on the boards when they are available.
This year focuses on Fiction so put your creative thinking cap on!
Stay tuned...

Won't be long. I'm part of the unavoidable circumstances. In the meantime, just keep in mind that this year is for Fiction novels.

Pup, the novel can be as long as you want. However, the entry is just the first chapter (and possibly any introduction to it) and a synopsis of the storyline.
Although the manuscript can be any length, there is the "JC proviso" now on the free editing component of the prize, with the limit being 300 pages. Our first winner, JC Lamont, had a 900+ page manuscript, which I've only just finished editing. Absolutely loved it, but it was a lot of work for free.
I'm glad she was our first winner because I introduced the proviso straight after (starting with last year's contest).
So go for it.
Love, Deb

I love that story, read it as she was working on it as well as when she finished it.I cant wait for Book 2.
Anyway, I dont think mine would come close to 300 pages even with double spacing.

I'm not sure what the last 2 posts before the last post on this thread (whew!) are talking about. I get the excited part.
Half editing? Half price? Grandfathered?
Am I nosing into a personal conversation? (I apologize if I am!)
Sorry, but I am curious and just wondering if this is something I should know about?
THANKS!

THE THIRD ANNUAL FAITHWRITERS'
PAGE TURNER WRITING CONTEST
2009 - CHRISTIAN FICTION
FaithWriters.com and Finesse Writing and Editing Service are pleased to announce the third FaithWriters' "Page Turner" Writing Contest--this time for all the fiction writers.
If you are a member of the FaithWriters 500, you are invited to enter this very special contest created just for you.
So, if you've got a half-written manuscript gathering dust in the bottom of your wardrobe, or have had an idea for a novel brewing in the back of your mind for years, this contest is just the spur you need to get writing--and we'll even give you ten months to do it.
All you need to do is write the first chapter of the novel of your dreams, together with a brief synopsis of the entire story, and then submit it for the 2009 Page Turner Writing Contest.
One entry will be chosen as the FaithWriters' Page Turner Champion for the year, with the author receiving:
1. Free editing of their manuscript (up to 300 pages);
2. A fabulous cash prize, that could be used toward the cost of self-publishing their finished book;
3. Free publicity and marketing of their book on all FaithWriters' sites (including FaithWriters' Magazine) for 12 months once it is published;
4. A press release to announce their win to the world;
5. A press release to promote their book when it is published; and
6. A special "Page Turner Champion" award plaque.
Two runners-up will also receive FaithWriters' "Page Turner" Highly Commended award plaques and the offer of half price editing for their manuscript.
WHAT CAN YOU WRITE ABOUT?
This year, our focus is on fiction--of any genre. However your novel should be suitable for Christian readers. Other than that, let your imagination be your guide. We will be looking for the entry that has the greatest "page turning" and publishing potential.
Although there won't be a set word count, it should be kept in mind that entries will comprise of the first chapter only (and a brief synopsis). So although your finished manuscript may end up being the size of Gone with the Wind, don't try and cram it all into the opening chapter.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:
# Entry in the Page Turner contest is open only to members of the FaithWriters 500.
# Entries will open on January 1, 2009, and close on October 31, 2009. The winner will be announced on December 1, 2009.
# Entries must be made using the online form at ……………………
# Entries do not need to be written specifically for this contest. They may be a previously written work; however, they must not have been previously published.
# Entries must comprise of the first chapter of the entrant's novel, together with a synopsis for the entire work. If a short introduction is included as part of the manuscript, that may also be included with the first chapter. If the chapter is extremely short (up to 4 pages), entrants may include a second chapter.
# Entries must be the sole creation and work of the submitting author; however, outside assistance for editing is permitted.
# Every entry must include a completed entry form with full contact details.
# Each entry will be judged on creative and literary skill, as well as the ability to catch and hold a reader's attention and make them want to turn the page for more. Entries will also be judged on the publishing potential of the manuscript. The brief synopsis of the entire book will be taken into consideration during the judging process.
# The judges' decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
# Entries must be a work of fiction, written for a Christian market and from a Christian perspective. In other words, they should reflect a Christian outlook on life.
# One entry only is permitted per FaithWriters 500 membership.
# Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable.
# With regard to the prize, it should be noted that the editing component must be used before December 2010.
# By completion of the application form, the winner(s) give their consent for FaithWriters.com and Finesse Writing and Editing Service to use their name(s) for promotion purposes.
# The author always retains the full rights to their entry, and neither FaithWriters.com nor Finesse Writing and Editing Service will make any claim on those rights,
# Neither FaithWriters.com nor Finesse Writing and Editing Service will make public any part of any entry without the author's written consent.

Wow ... talk about timing. I sent the information through to Scott yesterday, and he emailed me to say it was now up, so I was coming over to let everyone know.
So go for it gang. As you can see, I've even extended the time to ten months to get your entry in. Plenty of time to think about it, hone it and even write lots of chapters so you'll be ready to go with editing soon after if you win.
Love, Deb
