She had so much for which to thank him. The Pharisee had not been forgiven so much and he lacked compassion. He raised the question, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is – that she is a sinner.” (Luke 7:39) Not Mary, she knew the acceptance of Jesus. The Pharisee only knew judgment and pride. “Who is this who even forgives sins?” (Luke 7:49) Simon the Pharisee still did not know Jesus.
Mary took her alabaster jar of expensive perfume and anointed the King of Kings. She wept in His presence, washing His feet with her tears and wiping them with her hair. She kissed His feet and poured perfume on them.
In His holy presence, she knew how unworthy she was. She felt no condemnation from the only One worthy to judge. Jesus showed Mary pure unconditional love, the love of a Beloved Savior and Friend.
Can we come to such a place of worship where we approach the throne of grace singing praises? Will we kneel in His presence and cry tears of sweet release over how much He has done for us? What will be our sacrifice?
God is raining down his love and presence upon us. He is abundantly pouring the fire of His Spirit out right now. Of this, I am very grateful. This world would be unbearable without His Spirit.
His heart is aching for those of us who have wandered so very far from His heart. He wants to restore fellowship with His Beloved. He desires restored relationships with each and every one who is away. He seeks the sheep who are wandering in the darkness and cold without Him.
They must be told of Jesus. They must be brought home into the fold. They must know there is a hope.
