a covenant name of God! He is our dwelling place.
In PS 91:1 it says "He who dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." The NIV says, "will rest," instead of abide.
The Amplified says it well, "He who dwells in the secret place of the most High shall remain stable and fixed under
the shadow of the Almighty(Whose power no foe can withstand).
When we rest in God we remain stable and fixed. When we rest in our own abilities we remain unstable and frustrated. Rest is a wonderful place to be. Psalms 91 is such a powerful chapter on rest and security. We can only rest in what we are secure in. There is no true security outside of the presence of God.
Verse 9-11 in the Amplified says,
"Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the most High your dwelling place, there shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent." "For He will give His angels
(especial) charge over you, to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways (of obedience and service). Wow, I call that a place of rest!
God invites us into His arms through His Son Jesus Christ, we have a place in God. Rest is so important to God that He gave us a powerful example in Genesis 2:2, "And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done."
Rest is important to God, He put that passage of scripture in the Word for our benefit. It is ok to rest, sometimes we may feel guilty about resting. If you are tired and weary, frustrated and wounded. Crawl up in God's lap and let Him hold you in His arms. This article may challenge some religious thinking in some, that is not my intent "to challenge" I really want people to know their is the security of the arms of a loving heavenly Father.
See yourself in His arms, ask Him to hold you right now. Ask Him to show you how to rest!
