Rushing to put the coffee on
She checks on the weather
Before getting the laundry together
She empties pockets of little rocks
And picks up all the dirty socks
She hears Jonny up wanting his bottle
She tries to hurry, but can only waddle
At 8 ½ months the going is tough
And the hours in the day are never enough
Now Susie wants her cereal fixed
Sandy needs help getting the orange juice mixed
And Tim and Ted are having a fight
Before they’ve even eaten a bite
After all are fed and out the door
She sweeps and mops the kitchen floor
She remembers the laundry she had started
Left in a heap when she hastily departed
Realizing she never got the first load in
The washer was just giving itself a spin
Quickly she puts in the first batch
Then picks up a pile of jeans to patch
Before she even has a chance to sit down
Tommy comes in wearing a great big frown
He couldn’t find his bat and ball
And no one would help him at all
So she goes outside to help him out
When what she really wants to do is shout
She just can’t seem to get anything done
The end no closer than when she had begun
Just as she gets back to her jeans
A troop of hungry toddlers intervenes
By the look on their faces she has a hunch
That it’s already past time for lunch
When every tummy is comfortably fed
And they are all tucked in their bed
She returns to her work once more
Hoping to find time her own strength to restore
She sits down to fold a mountain of clothes
And finds herself beginning to doze
She realized how tired she really was
For tiring the body is what pregnancy does
And being stressed out is Satan’s trap
So she decides to take a nap
Saying fifteen minutes is all I need
I must rest at the highest speed
For there is much work to be done
And I have only just begun
Before she could get a nap of her own
She’s interrupted by the ringing of the phone
Your name has been selected the salesman shared
It could have been a million for all she cared
Now the children are up and ready to play
They run around and get in her way
She takes them to the kitchen for cookies and milk
Afterward cleaning up what was spilt
Knowing her husband would soon be home
She tidies her hair and puts it in a comb
Then works to put supper on the table
Trying to have it ready for him if she’s able
After the supper dishes are put away
And she comes to the end of the day
She knows most of her efforts were defeated
But finding true rest was what she really needed
So when the children are all in bed to stay
She gets out her Bible to read and pray
She needs to hear from her Father in heaven
And begins by reading Matthew eleven
She realizes that real true rest
Is the opposite of being stressed
Matt. 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
