No, My Child, you did not deserve to be rescued, but I chose you.
I’m still pretty rough. You say I’m cleansed of my sin, but it’s going to take a lot of scrubbing to make me a Christian-acting person. I don’t know how I’m going to do it.
Don’t worry. I will help you change. I have already started. The more you listen and obey My voice, the easier the lessons will be.
Lessons? Like school? I hated school. I know I got lots of learning to do. How long will it take?
Until you are like Me.
No way! That will take forever.
Let’s start with your language. Don’t use My name in vain. Don’t speak it casually or irreverently. You claim to be mine. Let your words show it.
Sorry. That’s an ugly habit that will be tough to quit. I suppose watching my mouth means not lying or trash talking either.
Now, you’re getting it.
Hey, God, did you see me today? I totally went all day without swearing, all day! I’m doing pretty good, ain't I? What’s the next lesson?
Well done, now let me talk to you about pride. Have you forgotten who you were only a few days ago? Have you forgotten that it was My voice and power that gave you the inner strength to control your tongue? Without Me, you are nothing.
Yes, I know. I’m sorry. I have a feeling this will be a tough lesson to learn.
I will help you, but selfish pride is a stubborn sin to break and control. Let’s work on forgiveness, even when the one who has hurt you doesn’t apologize.
You mean, like when my stupid brother comes over and eats all my food, borrows my things, then breaks them, and never repays me? You’re saying I need to forgive him? Oh, man! You will have to clamp Your hand over my mouth for this one. It ain’t going to be easy.
Just call out to Me, and I will be there. I am always there.
Oh my G . . . Fiddlesticks! I almost swore, sorry, but I’m furious at myself. I failed! I failed all the tests You gave me. But my brother made me so stinkin' mad that I lost my temper. I called him a thieving, slimy pig. I said a lot of horrible words that I thought were gone. Then he called me a hypocrite. My pride said, “No, I ain't!” But it was true. I’m Your child, but I sure didn’t act like You. I failed all the lessons that You’ve been trying to teach me. I’m so sorry. Will you let me try again, please?
Yes, I love you. I will be here, and I will keep teaching you as long as it takes.
The way I'm going, it will take my whole life before I graduate from Your school.
Exactly.
