What do you think was going through Jesus’ mind as he agonized in the Garden of Gethsemane?
Do you think he had visions of what was to come?
Is this why he prayed, “Father if it is your will, let this cup pass over me; but your will, not mine, be done”?
Blood fell as his tears. It marked that the end had begun.
His blood ran for us. His blood fell for us through his tears at Gethsemane.
Do you keep forever, in your heart and mind, the worst bloodbath of all time?
When scourged, the soldiers tore at his back flesh with braided leather whips.
Not a whimper from Jesus even as his worn out body struggled to stand.
Then the flagellum shredded his flesh as they whipped him with a savage vengeance.
The metal balls and pieces of bone attached to the whip inflicted the most damage and pain.
Vast amounts of his precious blood pooled on the ground when scourged at the pillar.
Can we ever repay him for the debt he paid for us?
Do you remind yourself that Jesus is our King?
A crown, fit for a king, it was not.
Thick, long, pointed thorns were woven into a crown to mock the King of the Jews.
Their hearts were full of ferocious anger as they rammed the thorns onto his head.
The merciless thorns pierced his skin.
Blood ran down his face.
Do you ponder how much more blood drained from his body on his way to Golgatha?
Already depleted of an immense amount of blood, his body continued to seep his life source.
When he took a step, when he stumbled, when he fell, his DNA laid a trail on the ground.
The heavy burden of the cross dragged against his raw, torn flesh, poured forth more blood.
Jesus suffered more than any mere mortal could have accepted.
Do you see your hand on the hammer as the nails pierced his hands and feet?
Blood spurt out when each nail pounded through his skin and bones.
His right hand; his left hand; his feet; all dropped his precious blood on the cross and ground.
Every move of the cross sent shockwaves through his ravaged, blood-covered body.
Weakened from massive blood loss, he gave from his heart to rescue ours.
Do you remember what happened when they pierced his side?
As sunset neared, the guards knew to break the legs of those who hung on a cross.
They realized that Jesus had already died so they did not break his legs.
Instead, they shoved a spear into his side to validate that he had died.
Blood and water spewed as they pierced his lungs and heart.
His body had drained of all life-giving blood when the flow stopped.
With nothing left to give—he surrendered it all.
The massive amount of blood loss caused his death on the cross.
He shed his blood for us.
It began with a tear.
It ended with a spear.
He shed his blood for us on Calvary.
