I was approached by reporters vying for my attention. Me? They actually wanted to interview me? I’m not quite sure what I said, to any of them. But I did manage to respond appropriately…And, seemingly without any effort whatsoever.
I looked around as my husband and I sat in our plush velour seats. I could hardly believe or comprehend this enormous accomplishment of mine. I had given birth to an idea that began as an act of love. It was an overwhelming success—almost overnight—as evidenced by the category I was in. No one was more surprised than me.
The sea of people drowned me in anxiety. The individuals in attendance were replete with magnificence and their reputation preceded them all. The array of pastel gowns seemed to glissade in the distance. It was as if an artist were painting the scene on a huge canvas bringing it to life before my very eyes.
This truly is a night I never would have imagined in my wildest dreams. No…never. My husband’s voice intruded into my reverie of doubt and disbelief.
“Are you okay? You’re shaking.”
I smiled at my husband robotically before answering. “Yes—I guess so—I will be.”
He kissed my hand, and offered his support by saying just what I needed to hear, “Sweetie, no matter what happens here… just remember you’re already a winner in my eyes. I love you.”
“Aw- baby. You always know the right thing to say…I love you too.”
The lights dimmed when the orchestra began to play and the host of the biggest event of the year came out onto the stage.
Yes, it was the biggest night of my life, one in which I'd always remember, one in which I'd always embrace.
Sweet Lord, what a night...
