Passed in a blur and here we sit
In that old familiar place wondering
If he will be as brutal and prophetic as back then
Those of us who chased the dream
And rose like cream just as he predicted
Have lost our way and swallowed lies
And been the worse for it and now our kids
Ready to go forth but have no clue and
We, now leaning hard on middle age, don’t
Know what to do as we seek a wiser voice from
That strange man who appeared at our commencement long ago
He hasn’t aged one day and has no notes
But stands soldier-like at the ready to let us
Have it once again, and now we’ve come to really listen
Not to party or to wear stupid like a mantle
His mighty voice still strong and in fine form
Holds us magnet-tight like before but maybe now
We’ll hear because we’re scared and push
Has come to shove and the world is on the brink
He begins in low notes as he stabs and slashes
With stark and vivid paintbrush-words
On the canvas of our wretched souls
And we lean forward, not to miss the picture
Death and life tangled in our past and present
Drags us to our future as we flail and resist
But continue to embrace the beast as a friend
Even though we know the last act will be the final
He asks us why we feel so compelled to tread
That sewage swamp as it oozes stink and bubbles
Unclean words and sights to fill our minds and spirits
With things God’s children do NOT need to live
Suddenly, like those years ago, his face contorts
In anguish far too deep for some to bear but
I, for one, will stick until the last and be convicted
And repent of the senseless sin of thinking wrong was right
Like the Lion I remembered he roars in perfect key
With no apologies for the strictest meaning of the message:
“How do you justify those Technicolor images cleverly shrouded
With the veil of fun and fantasy as if that changes the intent?”
It takes a minute to grasp his point in piercing us
With the sharpest two-edged sword until we’re wounded
To the core and ready to surrender what
Has duped us with its lens of lies that blurred our vision
More than one weeps and sobs as eyes are opened
And hearts are shamed at excusing sugar-coated Sinema
So fondly embraced, and worse, fed to our children who
Followed unaware to the edge merely to be amused
We’ve paid a price to sit in chairs that gently rock, loaded with
Dirt and germs, that hold us captive in the dark as comfort-scents,
Hot and popped, welcome us just inside the double doors and
Call us to the inner sanctum to thrill at scenes that do not edify!
The tragedy of drama’s drug shot through stars projected
On screens bigger than life and a hundred times louder
Has tricked so many whose unyielding spirits extol and defend
A celebrated business of show that is not real life…but why?
When the man of great discernment finally shut his honest mouth
The silence of God’s lambs was deafening as each confessed
To tickets we had bought and paid for countless times
And carelessly redeemed them for a place we would not take Jesus
A man’s healing words sharper than a surgeon’s scalpel
Exposed blatant evil standards until we understood
Worldly pleasures staged and acted out to entertain our spongy minds
Are Trojan Horses who've crossed the line to kill and steal, and yes, destroy!
No one noticed when he left as we, heads down, shuffled out
To re-access our long ago commitments to obedience
To what we pretended we believed but really didn’t walk the talk
And now we do accept revival will be painful, but oh so healthy
In
The
End
Thank you, Lord.
_______
Ephesians 5:10-12 (NLT)
Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret.
