My mind is aware of the tiny noise, but I try to ignore it.
Bzzzz
Now it’s closer to my ear. I don’t believe in violence, so I’m not going to smack it. I flop my head the other way and try to go back to sleep. The noise disappears for a while, and I drift back into my dreams.
Pssst, pssst, pssst
Oh no, it’s back and brought more. I bury my head under my pillow and sheets. “Go away! I need a little more sleep.” Maybe it will leave me alone and find someone else to pester.
My cranky voice seems to work, but now I can’t go back to sleep. I check my phone. There are a few messages. After replying, I play a few rounds of Scrabble, take a quiz, giggle at some memes, ahhh over some baby photos, comment on some posts, and chat with my daily friends.
Waaaaaaaah
The little buggers are whining all around me now. I swish the sheets off my head and stumble out of the bedroom. Why can’t they leave me alone? Even while I’m taking a shower, I can hear them buzzing outside the bathroom. I’m glad they haven’t figured out how to open the door.
Finally, I get a few minutes of respite when I shoo them outside, but they’re back again, fierce and famished, before I’m even done talking to my sister in Texas. She was telling me about her neighbor’s new dog that barks all night, about everyone getting ready for hurricane season, and about her hairdresser being away having a baby, but I never got to hear how she’s decorating her kitchen this year.
Buzz, buzz, buzz
All day long, they whirr about me. I can’t watch TV, read my book, or check my phone without one of them buzzing around my head.
Ouch! It bit me!
“That’s it!” I throw down my phone and growl at the bugger. It’s right in my face. I see big eyes looking straight into mine. I’d swear those are tears getting ready to drip. It comes closer yet. If it weren’t such a pest, it would be rather cute – maybe.
“Mommy, I love you.”

Excellent read, I really enjoyed this and happy to see you in the challenge.
Blessings~
I had to laugh when I read the ending. My niece has three young children, and she's wondering if she'll ever get to sleep through the night.
