The descriptions were perfect! A great story, and the title pulled me right in.
I love the wonderful descriptions--but I wish he'd never started home. He might have had a smile on his face . . . but poor Sarah! This made me sad.
No surprise here. Great job, and congratulations!

What a beautifully told story. I was with Jack right through, hoping. A chill came over me,along with tears, at the ending. This is well-deserving of its 2nd place win.

Ann, Congratulations on your 2nd place finish. I kept hoping the ending would be different, but your vivid descriptions of Jack vs. nature kept me frozen to your story.

Oh dear, such a grim ending. But lovely in its poignancy.

A beautifully written story. I was captivated until the end but then a bit confused at the last 2 paragraphs - was meeting Sarah not really happening, and was it Jack's frozen corpse lying dead at the doorstep in the morning?
