Topic: TALKATIVE (09/08/16)
“So, I only have a minute, but you have to understand what kind of day it’s been for me. You wouldn’t believe what Roger told Amanda – at least the thing I heard is what Celia said that Francis told her that Emily overheard when she was overnight at her place. I wouldn’t have known except that my phone gave me that Eye of the Tiger ring which only goes off when my sister Wendy gets a text from her boyfriend Simon. I cloned her phone without her knowing and when I’m really bored I listen in to all that mush. I’ve got enough to blackmail her to the end of her grandmother years but she’d kill me before she paid off so I’m thinking about how to get myself some protection before I spring it on her. Anyway, the Eye of the Tiger went off and I listened in but it was Celia, Simon’s sister, using his phone to text my sister Wendy with the latest news. If it wasn’t a Tuesday with school coming, I would have picked up the phone and pretended to be Wendy because if Celia knows something she can go on and on and on and never run out of breath. When she talks my ears feel like they’re drinking up a river of noise louder than Niagara Falls. Anyway, after I finally got out of bed I realized that mom needed my sheets and I had to rip the bed apart and take a shower and drop the towels off downstairs and use the Swiffer under my bed. I was dancing with the dust bunnies under there when I found a sheet of paper. It was my speech class instructions on the talk I was supposed to give on the dream I have for my life. We’d been studying the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior and he sure knew how to talk and my teacher, Ms. Ellis, thought that since Whitney and me knew how to talk so much in class that perhaps we should put some more time into thinking of some of the words we were using. Last night, I was so busy talking to Courtney, Bobbi Lou, Freda, Laini and Patience about the last sermon we should have been listening to that I fell asleep without writing out my speech, so now I have to wing it and I haven’t got a clue what I’m going to say. We have to get up in front of the class and talk for a whole two minutes. It’s not like I have my teaching degree. How am I supposed to come up with that many words without making a fool of myself? It wasn’t like Whitney and me were talking about anything special. She had been listening in on the boy’s locker room and heard Odell yelling that Jimmy Wyatt liked Tanya Ridley. She just needed to check with me if I knew anything about that since I’m pretty well up on most of what is talked about in our school. I was just going to tell her that as far as I knew Tanya Wyatt had a crush on Elmer Gibbons so things were going to get complicated if we didn’t let everyone know what was going on. Ms. Ellis has no sense of what life is about, so now I’m stuck trying to figure out what some preacher had to say ages ago when I don’t even know what my own preacher said last week. I’m thinking that, being a preacher, he probably said something from the Bible so I figure if God gets talkative with me in the next few minutes then I’m likely to get in on what was so important so long ago. Freda told me that there ain’t nothing about Dr. King in the Bible even though it’s so old and all. I’m thinking that I’ll just borrow my mom’s Bible and read some of those red letter words since I know that those are the ones Jesus said and if Jesus said them then Dr. King probably said them sometime. Bobbi Lou told me it’s important that I say “I have a dream” a lot so I can do that about every verse or two. Anyway, Mrs. Pastor, I’m glad you have an endless message machine so I can take this minute to let you know what to pray for. Oh, this is Melanie… your favourite Sunday School student …. Bye. Talk soon.”

Whew...now I can exhale...and breath! That was lot to take in in one gulp! Thank God the pastor had an “endless” message machine..but then maybe the pastor was not so thankful! LOL This certainly fits the topic and I think we all probably know a real life person or two who can rattle on like this and end up saying very little of importance. Great example and “showing” of the topic!
