During my summer days as a youth, I’d often put off boring tasks, opting for frivolous ones instead. Things like reading comic books on the wrap-around porch of our beautiful home. Or, things like riding my bicycle to the local toy corner store, to browse at the newest items being stocked. Ah, yes those were the days.
As I age, and watch the transformation of time marching by, I see so many differences in generations gone by. The temperament and moral climate has juxtaposed my world of yesteryear. In fact, so many things have changed that are glaringly opposite of which I’m accustomed.
Although there are huge gaps in which I cannot leap over, as the world changes so rapidly before my eyes, ostensibly, there are things that, thankfully, stay the same.
If I look around and delve into the emotional magnitudes of individuals on the news, or in my circumference of life, I can still see a glimpse of the world I remember as a youth.
Yes, the cords of similarity might be invisible to some, but…I hold on to hope and trudge onward exploring with a glass half-full attitude. You see, with that mind-set…I’m able to do things with renewed enthusiasm, and not put off necessary changes that promote my sanity while preserving my soul.
Life is filled with a series of gains and losses, and it’s through these valuable lessons that inherently form the fundamental roots of our countenance, which makes up the industrial tribes of humanity. It’s what you come away with, from your roots of childhood, that invariably mark your progression in the world today.
A dear sweet good friend of mine is battling for her life at this point in time. She is terminally ill, and struggling with intolerable pain. She had been healed many times over throughout the years, and termed a cancer survivor… but, sadly this tumor is different. It’s growing, and there’s nothing more the doctors can do. She told me, “I have so many more things to do in life, I’m not afraid to die, but I feel my work isn’t over in this lifetime.”
She is looking to God for strength, guidance, peace, and placing her love and trust in Him...that His will be done.
Conversely, another good friend of mine, just became a grandmother for the first time. Her daughter gave birth to a beautiful little girl who was two weeks late. The baby put off coming into this world as long as she could, but she’s here now.
Two very different scenarios, polar opposites you might say, concerning my two friends. However, when you pause and think about it, you’ll come to the same conclusion I have, which is, the two events are not really that different. In fact, they’re closely aligned.
You see, each one cannot put off the inevitable. Life and death, they go hand-in-hand, and this reality occurs every second of the day, throughout the world.
The good LORD gives and takes away.
Oh, and that one thing I mentioned earlier that remains the same since the beginning of time, His love.
