As we mourn all we have lost
When we can’t find the words
We gather at the flag pole
As it stands at half staff
Neither up nor down.
We are not standing in triumph,
But neither are we defeated.
And so it stands, half-way.
United as a nation
But most importantly
United in Christ
How long, Oh Lord?
We ask and we beg.
How much more can we take?
Our hearts long for that day
When death is defeated
Once and for all.
I try to pray, but. . .
And so the Spirit intercedes
With groanings that cannot be uttered.
In my silence, Lord, speak.
In my stillness, Lord, move me.
In my emptiness, Lord, fill me.
We gather together today
To support one another
Because we cannot make it alone.
One day
Kingdoms will fall
And You will rise.
While we wait for Your perfection,
Heal our hearts, Lord.
Heal our lands.
How long, oh Lord?
We wait in silence
Until that day
When You gather
Us in Your arms
And You will prove
You
Have
Overcome.
