Then came the Pony Express--dedicated riders got mail into the hands of recipients almost immediately—within 10 days. . .then the telegraph caused the Pony Express to be obsolete within eighteen months. Now important messages could be transferred by Morse Code in just minutes.
Remember mailmen on foot carrying big leather bags over their shoulders stuffed with letters, postcards, magazines and invoices?. No matter the weather, the mail was delivered. How dedicated these postmen were because they had the responsibility of getting mail to our doors. In bygone years most words penned in letters or notes expressed heartfelt feelings or dealt with matters of importance. During war times love letters were tied with string, put in shoeboxes and were read again and again until the couples could be reunited.
Today we have emails, texts, tweets, Facebook and other ways to express what’s on our minds. Some media mail can be malicious and thoughtless. What once was so precious has been cheapened by instant meaningless chatter read by people we don’t even know.
Today, if you’re troubled, fearful or in need of help, try an original form of communication that never goes out of style—PRAYER.
